For a moment, I couldn’t move. My body was frozen. Myy mind was still reeling from everything that had just happened. Jaxon’s arms around me had been my anchor. But now, as he turned his attention to something behind me, I felt my heart raced inside my chest.
I followed his gaze. And that’s when I saw him.
Frank.
He stood at the edge of the clearing. I couldn't read what was on his mind. My heart clenched as our eyes met. And for a split second, I thought I saw something flicker in his gaze.
Was that concern?
Anger?
Regret?
But it was gone almost as quickly as it came, and was replaced by his usual mask of indifference.
Jaxon’s voice broke the silence. “How long have you been standing there?”
Frank shrugged. “Not long,” he answered almost indifferently.
