Katie Luna Sylvia guided me gently through the grand halls of the pack house. I could feel her hand placed firmly on my shoulder as if she feared I might break apart at any moment. We reached a door at the far end of the corridor. She opened it to reveal a cozy guest room. The bed was large. Its soft blankets were already folded back invitingly. And the room smelled faintly of lavender. It was warm, comfortable, and yet, I felt like an outsider stepping into it. “You’ll stay here,” Luna Sylvia said softly. But I could see her eyes betraying her distress. “At least until we’ve dealt with Ken. This will give you a chance to rest, away from all the commotion.” I nodded as my throat was too tight to speak.
