I stared at Katie. My jaw tightened for her calm refusal. She wasn’t even trying to argue. Her voice wasn’t sharp or defiant. It was so calm and was almost frustratingly measured. And yet, it set my teeth on edge.
How could she act like this despite what she did?
“You asked me to apologize,” she continued. “Do you even know what happened before you came? You only saw Audrey fall on the ground and assumed I bullied her. But the scene before that, and why I did that… you didn’t see it. How could you easily pass your judgment? Don’t you think it is a little unfair?”
Her words stopped me short. For a brief second, I felt the sharp sting of doubt creep in, but I shoved it aside. My frustration overrode everything else.
