Meeting the King

2001 Words
The dress I wore as I stood in front of the castle was called a Renaissance kirtle, Alia had told me that this would be more comfortable for me since I wasn't used to the clothing they had. It was a white and light blue dress that was laced at the front with a fitted bodice and a loose skirt that flowed to my ankles, I wore a white long-sleeved shirt that had to be laced at the sides and I wore dark blue flats to match with the ribbon placed in my braided hair. J and I stepped through the place doors and made our way down the hall that was decorated in gold and paintings, that I was too afraid to go close to because they probably come from his grandmother's mother mother and there is no way I can pay for that. We stopped at two double doors which were very tall, J knocked in a pattern and the door was opened by two guards. As I stepped through the doors I was greeted with gold stairs leading up to two gold thrones and paintings of which I assume were past king and queens were hanged up on the walls and went around the room. "The King will be arriving soon," a guard spoke causing J to nod at him. "So when he comes what should I do? Should I-," I was cut off by the doors opening and a man with a crown came through the door. Everyone fell on their knees bowing their heads while I stood there looking around the room. I looked at the king and saw him raising an eyebrow at me. "Was I supposed to do this?" I questioned and I heard J let out a snigger but he covered it up with a cough. "All rise," the king spoke, "and to answer your question, yes." "Well sorry," I apologized but I didn't really mean it there was no way I'm getting on my knees for someone I don't even know. "That's okay," he waved off my apology, "now come I've prepared I feast." We followed him into the dining room where rows of food were laid out on the table, the aroma made me realize that I was very hungry. I didn't wait for any instructions to move and take a seat at the table. "Well what are we waiting for?" I questioned seeing J and his highness still standing at the entrance, "let's eat. "Well the lady is right let's it some food!" the king exclaimed patting J on his back. He sure looks happy for someone who lost his wife. We sat around the table devouring food and it was absolutely the best thing I have ever eaten in my life. They had cooked a series of different dishes probably finding things from earth I liked, they had butter chicken, samosa and chicken tikka from Indian cuisine, jerked chicken, ackee and saltfish, fish escovitch from Jamaica and also other foods that I haven't heard of but it still was amazing. "So let's talk about why you're here," the king cleared his throat and wiped his mouth, "you're going to get back my wife right?" "I assure you your highness she will," J spoke for me while giving me a pointed look. "Yes I will," I reassured. "Good, it's just not the same without her here. I try to keep a good spirit so that Synovia can also feel we have hope," he said sadly, "you know normally we would be having a picnic with children of the orphanage, she always loved children. Now that you're here I don't have to pretend because I know you'll get her back and I just want to thank you in advance." "You're welcome," I spoke but I felt bad how are they gonna explain that I'm not trained for this. "Now since this is an important mission I wanted to test you in a duel," the king stated with a smile. Oh no "That would me great," J spoke causing me to glare at him. "Guards show them the armory, then bring them to the duel room," the king ordered, "I'll be meeting you in the duel room. I can't wait to see the chosen one in action." A guard came up to us telling us to follow him, but I'm sure that was directed towards me since J was here since forever. "Do you think this is a good idea J?" I whispered. "J?" he asked looking at me. "Yeah that's my nickname for you, now answer the question," I knew he knew that I would embarrass myself out there. "You are the chosen warrior don't worry," he said as we come to a stop in front of a door, the door opened to show weapons of all sorts. The guard made his way out of the room closing the door behind him as he went. "And if you embarrass yourself we'll just say you're tired," he shrugged causing me to roll my eyes.  As I looked around for any weapons something caught my eye, a sword was on sat in an upright position it held a blue gem under the guard of the sword, it looked as if it had writing scribbled on the blade but I couldn't understand it. As I held it in my hand I felt something surge through my veins and my hands started glowing gold just like it did when I touched the painting. "Have you found anything yet?" I heard J shout from around the corner. "Yes and its perfect," I said wielding the sword. I met him back at the entrance and he looked at the weapon I had in my hand then looked back at me with a small smile. "No one has ever used that sword before," he said. "Why?" I questioned it was literally perfect. "Don't know," he shrugged, "that's not important right know let's get you changed because you are not ruining Alia's dress." "You totally like her," I teased grabbing the clothes from his hands, "don't worry I won't tell her." I changed into the clothes and looked in the mirror admiring the outfit. It was one shoulder black leather warrior corset, there was a strap going across my breasts' to connect with the short sleeve. A dark fabric was stuck in between the belt on the corset and it came up to cover the other shoulder, I had two leather braces that covered the bandages I had on my wrists, the black leather pants I had on was surprisingly not uncomfortable, I paired the outfit with some combat boots and my sword which was in a scabbard that was placed on my back to finish the look. "You actually look like a warrior," J chuckled while I gave a little spin. "Well let's hope I can live up to expectations," I smiled nervously. "Let's go they're probably thinking we're stalling," he said. We made our way back towards the guard who then showed us our way to the duel room. Although there was a good chance that I might embarrass myself I didn't feel nervous or anxious at all and that came as a huge shocker. As we made our way in the room I saw pretty eyes a.k.a. Killian beside the King his eyes snapped to mine as if he could sense me staring at him, we made very long eye contact until I felt J nudging me. "What?!"I whispered screamed at him and he nodded to someone. When I looked up I saw a bulky guy in warrior attire as if he was going to fight, "I'm not fighting him right?" "Warrior you're here!" the king exclaimed, "you'll be fighting Betamin," he said pointing to the bulky guy. Isn't that just great. "Excuse me if I'm a bit rusty, it's just that I'm very tired," I used as an excuse incase I didn't win this fight. "That's quite fine," the king said but I could see Killian smirking at me as if he knew I was lying. "LET THE GAMES AGAIN!" the king shouted loudly. Everyone cleared the grounding floor and moved up towards the stands and as J moved away he gave me a thumbs up while I returned a smile. At least he has faith in me. I took my sword from the scabbard as he grabbed his own, he moved to the middle of the room while I stood at the far end until I realized I should me in front of him. Mumbling a quick sorry to the room I could see from the corner of the room that J wanted to laugh.  "GO!" I heard someone shout and bulky made no hesitation to lunge at me. Before I could even think about it I moved out of the way grabbing his arm and kneed him in his stomach then letting him go. He got up from his slumped position and raised his sword in an on guard position and as he was about to strike it felt as if I didn't have any control of my arm when they blocked the attack, not that I was complaining. He moved again but this time went for my shoulders but I blocked once again twisting his sword causing him to back up, he pulled another sword from his sheath and wield both in his hand. He moved towards me striking both of his swords and I blocked it giving me a chance to kick him in the stomach, he moved away but I wasted no time and as I advanced towards him he stood back straight. I struck at his feet causing him to fall so I moved atop of him holding the point of the sword at his neck. I won? I won! Although I was happy that I won I had to keep my face neutral, so it seems as if I had done this before. I helped Betamin up which he gave me a small smile for, I heard clapping and I turned towards the stand where I saw everyone with a smile on their face except Killian who was now glaring at me. "Good fight," Betamin spoke, which I nodded to with a small smile.  "If that's how fight when you're tired I can't wait to see you revived," the king spoke coming down the stairs and J and Killian followed behind. "Me too," I mumbled. "What was that?" the King asked. "I said thank you," I covered. "Now that we have seen your potential, J here is going to escort you to where you will be staying," the king spoke with a small smile on his face, "once again I thank you for doing this." "Come on we must be going," J said ushering me towards the door. "Wait!" The king called, "you must meet Killian." "We've met," I heard his deep husky tone. "Hey pretty eyes," I said turning back towards him, "it's been a long time since I've seen you." "Definitely not long enough," he spoke back. "Well I-," I started "We have somewhere to be," J spoke cutting of my sentence and dragged me out of the room by my arm. "What was that?" J asked as we walked down the unoccupied hallway. "What are you talking about?" referring towards Killian or the fight. "Why so nervous if you know you were going to win?" he questioned again. "I didn't even know I could do that. It felt as if I had no control of my body and it was moving on its own accord," I explained as I took my leather braces off and placed the sword back in the sheath, "not that I'm complaining." "Okay, let's just get you to your house," J said after nodding at my explanation. "Damn it," I cursed. "What? What happened?" he asked worried. "I didn't ask the king if I could keep the sword," I pouted.
