I looked around the conference table, meeting the eyes of each of the six editors who had just pitched their ideas for attracting new authors. Several of the ideas had merit, while two of them relied on the tried and true method of contacting a growing list of literary agents to see if they had any promising prospects.
The issue I see with using literary agents is that some of them, granted a miniscule number, will oversell the talent of the authors they work with.
