The rooms were distorted but he knew where he was. The hotel was as much an atmosphere as a building, and he knew it well. The corridors were dark with only a faulty bulb strobing his view, its electric splutter the only break in the silence. He moved stealthily, checking for any unwanted witnesses, until he reached the door he sought, the one he had seen the manager leave unlocked. Feeling the handle gently, he rotated it slowly, smiling as he felt it open. Once inside he closed the door with a gentle click and turned to face the display.
