On the way home, Topher let out a sigh after what felt like the millionth time of his checking up on me. He pulled onto the side of the freeway, closed the top cover of his car for extra privacy, and turned off the engine. He placed a hand on my shoulder and massaged it for a while. “I know you probably don’t want to tell me because you keep avoiding the question, but I thought maybe we could keep being honest with each other. You know, like the best of buds?” Sadly, his heart-warming smile didn’t work this time. I hadn’t looked at him much because of what I’d found out. As much as I thought he should know, I couldn’t get myself to tell him the truth. He kissed my lips.
