Chapter 2
Favour came to school the next day fully prepared to put up a fight with the devil grandson no matter what may come, she had to retrieve her note at all course as it was very important and losing it wasnât an option.
Alex did not come to school that day as well as the following day and the days after for the whole week. Favour was pissed off to the point she didnât know what to do. That Friday, she meet Henry to inquire about his friend. Henry was also in a tight spot as Alex suspected he had a hand in the Mondays incident which he denied bluntly
âhi! You are Henry rightâ Favour asked
âyeah how may I help you â Henry asked innocently
âplease how about you friend, that one studying journalism that sat beside me during general class on Mondayâ
âyou mean Alexâ
âyesâ
âis they a problem ? Why are you asking after himâ
âhe is in possession of my book which is very important to meâ
âwhat sought of bookâ
âit a written story by me and I have been typing it to submit for an up coming competition and next week is the dead line, am not even done typing it. Please if you know his whereabout let me know or ask him to return the book to meâ
âokay I understand, I will reach out to him at all means and pass across your messageâ Henry promised feeling guilty for his actions. He picked that book because he saw it was important to Favour and she was always with it. He had no idea things will turn out that way. He will go to Alex even if it means confessing his sins at least he should do right by her.
âthanksâ Favour appreciated
Henry dropped by at Alex place on Saturday as early as 6am to make sure he meets him at home.
Alex opened the door after relentless knocks where made, he look paranoid as his money sleep had been interrupted.
âWhat in Godâs name is your problem Henry. Whatâs up with the early money visitâ
âit important that I talk to you so I had to be here this early or else I wonât meet you at home and you havenât been taking my calls. Not as if you usually do anywayâ
âand thatâs because am always busyâ Alex explained. Although he never cared too much of peopleâs opinion about him, Henry was his only friend and he didnât want him to fill that he wasn't important or valued.
âI know you have a lot on your plate to take care of, Iâm not judging you. I understand but when will your busyness end Iâve forgotten the last time you hanged out with me. We are in the university now we should enjoy our youth Alex. Donât get too drown in your zeal to make moneyâ
âwhy are you hereâ Alex asked not finding Henryâs comments heart warming
âI meet Favour on Fridayâ
âwhich Favour?â
âYour course mate off course the one whose book is in your possessionâ
âand...?
âshe wants her book backâ
âI donât remember her employing you as her envoyâ Alex commented sarcastically
âshe seems to be in desperate need of the book . She said the contents of the book is a story written by her and she is meant to type and forward it to an organization before the coming week endsâ. Alex glared at Henry with suspicious eyes which Henry tried to avoid at all course
âHow did her book end up in my bag? And how did she know the book was in my back? I was wondering maybe you could explain this to meâ
âI⊠donât know what you are talking aboutâ
âOh I see! I was just wondering. Since you have no idea then it fineâ Alex picked up his phone and starting taping on it. Henry knew very much what such quite and simply response meant. 'Alex already figured out who the mastermind was' he realized.
âfine I did put her book in your bag and also told her I suspected you didâ Alex dropped his phone by his side and again glared at Henry
âI simply wanted to teach you a lesson not much. You are getting more and more arrogant this days and you needed to be taught a lesson so as to reset you mind and brain on the right pact of life thatâs allâ Alex continued to stare at Henry without a word âI wanted you to be embarrassed a little and if you are angry, you will teach Favour a lesson. Thatâs killing two birds with one stone but I didnât expect the lesson you will teach her will be this hard. She really needs the book backâ
âso you planed to have me addressed as a thief in other to teach me lessonâ Alex demanded in a cold voice
âThat part wasnât my doingâ Henry denied
âand I was also wondering why my little sister called me all of a sudden, whatâs your take in that?â
âit was only to aid my planes, I asked her to call you at the time she didâ he answered with a solemn voice
â im beginning to doubt if it's broadcasting you are studying rather than philosophy. Iâm not in the mood to return the book yet go and tell her that. I donât care if her family life depends on it that is her business. When you're ready to leave the door is open Iâm going back to bedâ
âAlexâ Henry called after him and got no response âGod forsaken jerkâ Henry left Alex apartment in annoyance, making up his mind to let fate take its course concerning the book. He will simply avoid general classes or give himself a break for the next one week.
****
The next week Favour came to school with a glimpse of hope concerning Henryâs promise to get her book back, the day went by slowly without the shadow of Henry nor Alex. She went back home moody and frustrated. She took her phone and went through the half of the story she had already typed. If only she had known from the unset, she world have typed it directly in her phone order than writing it in the book and typing from it.
She wrote the one on the book, so she knew the content but writing it back will not be the same as the one in her book. Still she tried typing some lines but lost focus. It seemed she had no idea on what to write next as her thoughts where in chaos.
Same thing happened the day after and the one that followed. She hated both Henry and Alex so badly in her mind and promised to never forgive them if the deadline of submission should pass without her submitting her story.
On Wednesday evening, Alex returned from work and decided to go through his notes. He picked up Favours book and decided to see what sought of story was written in it. He read the first chapter and then the second and third and forth and fifth. The story seemed interesting. He felt if edited it will be quite remarkable. He took out his system and began typing once he was done reading the whole book and at the same time editing the story. He could type a page in 20 minute as he spends of his time on his computer and also at work it wasnât a tough job to type a book such as that.
Favour laid on her bed on Sunday evening not moving neither sleeping. She have been that way since the day started sighing from time to time. The room seemed gloomy with the only race of sunlight light coming through the curtains, the walls painted in dark green giving off blue at first sight. The paint of the room annoys her to the core. if only she had the finance she would have changed the paint already. Three big plastic chairs arranged at the side of the walls contained each of her rommys clothes and hers, the tile's milky colour seemed another of her problem apart from the walls, why didnât they tile the room with white tile or colour tile Instead of the milk which make it seem like the room had not been moped for a long time. The bare beds laid close to the window where she tuned from side to side, two beds laid in the room one belonging to joy and one for her and Betty. Although she and Betty werenât siblings or relatives they shared a bed, utensils, and many necessary house properties. She had explained to her father while planning to rent the apartment that the former occupant of the apartment was her rommys relative and that all she had to do was pay for the properties which was more like renting them until she was done with schooling, which lead to she and Betty sharing while joy had brought her own stuffs. The kitchen streamed with plates, pots and cylinders all arranged on the floor as there were no cabinet. Favour had resolved to buy her own gas when she and Betty had a misunderstanding on the fact that they both contribute the same amount of money to fill the cylinders while Betty cooks more stuffs than her especially beans which consumes the gas. Returning from school one evening with stuffs to cook rice and stew yet greeted with the empty cylinder Betty had consumed while cooking her beans. She was greatly offended and quarreled Betty.
âWhat am I supposed to do now that the cylinder is depleted?â she had asked
âI donât know, probably you should look for means to fill it no matter how little so you can cook because I donât have money on meâ
âare you being serious right nowâ
âwhat am I supposed to do, how will I have know the gas will finish"
âbut you are always cooking and most of the time beans, how many times have I cooked ever since we filled the gas, canât you be a little considerate, do you think I pluck the money that I will fill gas and be unable to use it?â After the exchange of words, Favour called her father and complained she couldnât keep sharing a gas and had her father send her money to buy her own cylinder. The little corridor space was occupied by two big water container and the waste bin, the space was lighted with the always open little window small as the one in the kitchen having no cottons. The bathroom was small but could accommodate a person to bath comfortably. A rope tided from the window to the wall was occupied with their undies. The bathroom walls where tied unlike that of the kitchen. The little water sinker at the end of the bathroom floor was covered with a stainless bucket which was a result of the fact that rats came out of it time to time. On one Sunday morning, Favour had just entered the bathroom to take her bath when a mighty giant rat had jumped over her legs. She ran as fast her senses of emergency could go when the rat claws scratched her while jumping. Both she and the rat ended up running out of the bathroom. Her rommys had doubted her story not until each got their own experience.
She laid on the bare bed that morning as she had washed the wrapper she usually use as bed cover sighing over and over again in helplessness
âFavour are you okayâ Betty asked
âyeahâ she answered
âAre you hungryâ joy tipped in
âNoâ said Favour
âor are you sickâ Betty asked again
âI just said am fine, leave me aloneâ Favour answered in annoyance. Her roomys stood aside watching her turn from side to side. She continued to speak when the room fell quiet
âthis was a rare chance to see if my story could earn me a little money. Am broke and I did put in so much effort in writing that story and hoped to earn a little cash from it, even if itâs the last position but now simply because of some Luciferâs grandchild, every thing is ruined. When will I come across such an opportunity again. I fill so frustratedâ. Favour complained in annoyance.
âwho is the Luciferâs grandchild you are talking aboutâ Joy asked
âA course mate of mineâ she answered
âBut how did your story end up in his hands in the first place? Are you friends?â Betty demanded
âGod forbid that I keep such a person as a friend. Not even in my next life. Honestly I also donât know how he ended up having my book in his possession. His friend who is a Broadcasting student, told me he saw him take my book, so I asked him for it but then he denied haven taken my book. I searched his bag and found the book inside. haven thought clearly of how the whole events unfolded, am a bit confusedâ
âabout whatâ Betty asked
âActually when I asked him to return my book to me, he seemed surprise like he didnât know what I was talking about and when I found the book in his bag, he seemed to be even more surprise like he had no idea the book was in his bag or how it got there . His reaction seemed sincereâ Favour explained
âSo what are you aiming atâ Joy asked
âif he had no idea the book was in his bag, then someone put it in there and lead me to find it out. Beside what will he need my story book for, he is hardly in school and doesnât even know me or what the content of the book isâ
â you are implying that someone else stole your book and put it in his bagâ Betty asked
âmaybeâ Favour assumed
" for what reason will one do such"
âif so, who do you suspect and what will that person stand to gain if your course mate is framedâ
â the only credible suspect I have right now is his friend Henry a Broadcasting students. While I was looking for the book back then in class, he walked up to me and asked what I was looking for and told he suspected Alex took the bookâ
âwho is Alexâ
âthe Luciferâs grandson. And when I asked him for help on reaching Alex, he accepted as if he was felling guiltyâ
âyou said they are friends, why will he want to frame his own friend?â
âI have no ideaâ
âor maybe the main target was you. What if he knew how important the book is to you and stole it on purpose.â Joy asked
âI have never wronged him. only one of his course mate who asked me out but I wasnât in a good mood that day and talked harshly to him. That has got nothing to with him rightâ Favour clarified
âThis your case is complicated. Are you sure him and your course mate are really friends?â
âI donât really know, but that the only person Iâve seen Alex talk to. Or let me call victory and ask her why she left her sit that day which lead to Alex occupying itâ. Favour picked up her phone and dialed victories number. The call was picked after a few vibration.
Favour asked victory the reason she left her sit beside her to sit with happiness all of a sudden when she and happiness never get much along. Victory lied she simply wanted to sit bedside happiness instead. Favour pleaded with her to tell her the reason as it concerned getting her storybook back. Victory then narrated how Henry pleaded with her to change sit with him which she taught he was the one who planed to sit beside Favour and had something important to discuss with her. She omitted the fact that he gave her some money for the course. âAlright thank youâ Favour appreciated
âit all clear to me now. I remember it was Henry who arranged Alex stuff into his bag when Alex stepped out to make a call. Which means the he is the one that stole my book and left it in Alexâs bag. So when I accused Alex of stealing my book and the students standing by murmured about him being a thief, he lost his temper which is not always so good as far as I can remember and took my book awayâ Favour narrated
âthat explains it all thenâ said Betty
â but why will he want to embarrass and have Alex labeled as a thiefâ Favour asked being unable to figure it out
âwho knows what is going on in this guyâs head. They are probably fighting for a woman or something else as jealousy. Let me ask you Favour which of them is more handsomeâ Joy asked
Henry looks of course where not even close to that of Alex Which even as much as she hated him, she could not turn a blind eye to or over look
âI donât knowâ she concluded quickly and stood up from the bed
âwhere are you headedâ Joy asked
âit already evening, am going to look for network. I need to call my brother through w******p my call card has finishedâ Favour stepped out of the room to her usual spots where she could connect to the internet. Opening her w******p, she found a message from an unknown contact. The message was a word document which she assessed through her word app. To her bewilderment, the content of the documents was her story. She quickly scanned through the connect to find out if it was a complete work. finding out the wordings where better, she realized the story had been editted. She shouted out in Joy and ran back into the apartment.
âBetty, Joy, please come and seeâ her roomys rushed over
âWhat is it this time aroundâ Joy asked
âsomeone just sent me a completely typed and edited copy of my storybookâ
âis the Luciferâs grandson really that kindâ Betty asked
âI didnât say he did cause I donât know who didâ
"who else would if not he who is in possession of the book. He probably already figured out who the mastermind is and decided to make up for his mistakesâ
Why not call the line or chart the person up to know if itâs really himâ Betty advised
Favour did as advised but got reprehended instead in the text. âit seems your donât have a dead line for the submission any more that Why you will rather be charting instead of submittingâ
Favour showed the message to her roomys
âWhoa! Thee guy is so caringâ cried Joy
âand considerateâ added Betty
âHow is this being considerateâ Favour asked in displeasure. She walked out of the apartment to enable her submit the documents to sss.
