Chapter-2

We were interrupted by a slight knock on the door. She immediately covered my mouth with her palm loosening her hold onto my hair. "Who i-is it?", she asked. Fear was evident in her voice. "LAPD, please open the door.", replied the person on the other side of the door in a deep baritone voice. Shivers ran down my spine as recognized the voice. How can I forget it? Of course he will be here, the person who hates me the most. The person who will do anything to make sure I regret my existence. If he learns that I am somehow involved in this case, he will make sure I pay even if I am not guilty. He hates me that much. He even turned my own father against me and the thought of my father hating me any more clenches my heart. So I did the last thing I thought I would do. "I will play along, just get me out of here, out of this case, please, I'll do anything you say.", I pleaded to the person in front of me, she is my last resort for help. She seems a little taken aback from my request but quickly composes herself and nods in my direction. "Come with me.", she said and started to go in the same room towards which she was dragging me earlier. I followed her quickly not wanting to waste any more time. She rummaged through her closet for a few seconds and took out a scarf. She wrapped it around my neck covering all the bruises left after our little chit-chat. Oh God! I hate scarfs. "Mrs.Acker, are you there?", came the same voice but this time accompanied with louder knocks on the door. "Just follow my lead and remember that you are my good friend and you didn't know Brent personally, just as my husband. We were gone for shopping and till the time we came back he was already dead.", she said whiling swallowing hard. That must be difficult for her too, and here I was only thinking about myself. A surge of emotions flew through me when I realized that he cheated on both of us. What an asshole! But whatever he did, he didn't deserve to die. I was pulled out of my thoughts when she held my hand and walked towards the main door with me trailing behind her. As soon as she opened the door, I came face to face with my living nightmare. For a second I thought there was a look of surprise on his face but was soon replaced by a mischievous grin. "My my! Didn't expect to see you here, SISTER." AHH! Here we go.
