"Emily, I swear we can make this work," Fabian said, walking to my front and preventing me from advancing. "You know this, and I do, too. So just forgive me and pull all this ugliness behind us."?
I did not want to respond, but I found myself saying, "If there is or was any ugliness between us, it is you."
I noticed his face tighten into a frown, which he quickly reversed to a smile. "Whatever, Emily. Let us just..."
I pushed him aside, giving him a mean stare right after. "You are embarrassing, Fabian, and always have been. Whenever I have the misfortune of looking at you, I don't know whether to laugh at you or cry for you... yeah, it's a struggle."
