The WereChallenges will be starting tonight.
I can’t say I’m not nervous about how everything is going to turn out. And since I’ve decided that I’m the one who’s supposed to win them the pressure has increased ten times.
Even though I haven’t been to work for a while due to the fact that I have train I still feel like my dad will immediately know I have a secret I’m hiding from him. I’ve been a little panicked about it for a while now.
My brother is the only person who has been able to keep a semblance of calm since the whole thing started. He usually doesn’t care much about anything anyway unless it pertains to his art. So no surprises there.
We are currently all waiting for my dad to call because he told my sister he wanted to talk to all of us before the games begin. I’m sure it’ll be a bunch of advice on how to make sure we stay ahead. Which I guess he has a right to give since he did win when he was participating in them.
We chose to do it in Kazes room since his roommate was no show and it seems he will have the room all to himself until next semester.
“Do you think uncle Maddox will be with him?”I ask them.
“Probably. It’s been a while since we last talked to him. I’m sure he’d want to tell us to keep our heads in the game and take out anyone who stands in our way.”says Kaze. Uncle Maddox is his favourite.
Kali shakes her head but still agrees “Sounds like something he would say for sure”
We keep talking for a while until the call from dad gets connected his head filling the laptop screen.
“My little pups” Our father is the epitome of an Alpha male. He is dominant, confident, and an assertive man. He has a strong and muscular build, with a confident and commanding posture. He is also very handsome and well-groomed and put-together and likes fashionable clothing unlike uncle Maddox who is almost always covered up with dirt, sweat or blood.
“We are not pups” Kali scoffs but the smile never leaves her mouth.
“I missed you little ones. I am so used to you being around that the whole house feels empty without you”
“We miss you too dad.”I pout
“Where’s uncle Maddox”Kaze asks.
“He has some issues we have to deal with”he looks away as if he doesn’t want us to see his face as he says this“he wanted me to tell you guys that he really misses you”
“what issues? Is everything okay” I ask him because clearly the is something he is hiding from us. The day we left they were busy chasing something or someone - still can’t be sure- and I still don’t know anything about it. On top of that we have all been acting like nothing happened when in fact we could all be in danger.
“Nothing to worry about sweetheart. Just focus on today’s challenge and let me and uncle Maddox handle it okay?”he says still being shady as hell.
I chance a look at my siblings trying to see if they also realise that our dad is hiding something but they both don’t show any signs of concern.
Maybe I’m being crazy then.
I decide to drop it because I’m not going to get anywhere using this strategy “Okay I’m just worried because well, you’re there and we’re here and we don’t know if you’re taking care of yourself. You’re getting old you know”
His booming laugh is loud though the laptop speaker making me smile.
“You little brat. I still have a lot of years in me. You three still need me to take care of you”
“No way. You’re way too old to keep up with us. Plus weren’t you turned down by that lady Omega who runs the bakery because of the same reason” Kali teases.
“She did not turn me down because of that, we want different things in life so we decided to part ways stop being little brats”
The banter continues for a while. All of us enjoying getting to talk together like this.
“You kids be extra careful tonight.”our dad says after the teasing has calmed down.
“We will”
“Be focused. Especially you Kaze I know if it were up to you you wouldn’t participate but this is important. We got a lot of recognition and respect when I won the challenges. I don’t want you to think all I care about is you winning but I also care about you being safe so if you find yourself needing to bow out because it’s not safe for you anymore don’t feel bad about it. I’d rather have you lose but be safe than try to win only to lose your life in the process.” His eyes fly to all of us. “Any of you has a potential to win this if you put your minds to it” he adds even though I know he doesn’t really think I can win it.
His hope is fully on Kali but that’s okay. I have to win this and prove to not only him but everyone that I’m not to be messed with.
We say our goodbyes promising him yet again that we’ll be careful and then end the call.
“Kay are you okay? I heard about what happened to you at Birdies the other week” Kaze asks.
“Some brother you are” mumbles Kali giving him a side eye.
“I. . . I was dealing with something important. I’m sorry I didn’t get a chance to ask you about it.”he sighs running his hand through his hair “and you were joined to the hip with that roommate of yours during training and you know i don’t like her vibe.”
“She’s my friend you asswipe. Her vibe is just fine.” I look at him “ some guy groped me, Kali punched him then he wanted to jump us but Alvin beat him up”I shrug. Downplaying the events and their effects on me.
“ I’m sorry I wasn’t there for you. I saw the videos and wanted to say something sooner but. . .”
“It’s okay Kaz. If you guys would excuse me I have to go mix some of my herbs up and come up with something that will help settle down the nerves.”
“Wait have you talked to Alvin since what happened” Kali asks.
“Nope and I don’t plan to” Why would I talk to someone who hates me like that. I pick my tote bag from the couch. Swinging it over my shoulder.
“You can’t keep avoiding him you know.” She says but I don’t answer her choosing to focus on my departure. “You’re going to see him tonight”she continues.
Shit I am aren’t I.
And since other students are allowed to eliminate others from the competition he might come for me.
Fuck!
This just got interesting. And not in a good way.
And it doesn’t help that I get another text from the unknown person saying something creepy like see you tonight or something. I don’t read them anymore and I hope I’ll finally get the courage to block whoever it is.
