It had been three days since the incident at the Haven, and I was still hiding at Moorie’s place.
I had tried calling Mike several times, but his phone remained switched off. Maybe he was avoiding trouble… or maybe trouble had already found him. Either way, I planned to ask Moorie if he showed up at school today.
I was lying lazily on her bed, scrolling through my phone, when the bedroom door suddenly opened and Moorie walked in.
“Hey, get ready. You’re going back home,” she said, dropping her bag on the chair beside the wall.
I slowly turned my head toward her. “Wow… I can see you really care about me.”
She rolled her eyes dramatically. “It’s not that I don’t care. The police aren’t looking for you, the boy who got hit by the bolt is completely fine, and Mike even came to school today. So why are you still hiding here like a scared kid?”
“That’s all bullshit,” I muttered, though honestly her words made me relax a little.
“Are you kidding me?” she asked, staring at me in disbelief. “Don’t get too comfortable here either. My mum may be okay with your stay, but my dad is seriously pissed. So yeah… you need to leave.”
I slowly got off the bed. “Oh, I see. So you’re chasing me out now. Don’t worry, I’ll leave.”
“Hughhh!” she groaned in frustration. “What is wrong with you? I’m not chasing you out, idiot.”
She stepped closer and placed her hand gently on my chest, stopping me from walking toward the wardrobe.
For a moment, neither of us moved.
The air suddenly felt heavy.
Then before I could even process what was happening—
Our lips met.
The kiss was soft and brief, but enough to send electricity through my entire body.
Moorie quickly pulled away, her cheeks turning red instantly.
“I’m sorry,” she whispered, lowering her gaze to the floor.
A smile tugged at the corner of my lips.
“It’s fine,” I said softly. “You don’t have to apologize. I wanted it too.”
She looked up at me for a second before quickly turning away and heading for the bathroom.
Meanwhile, I walked over to the wardrobe to gather my things, trying—and failing—not to replay that kiss in my head.

A black GLK Benz roared to a stop in front of Xin Gin Hospital.
The front passenger door opened first, and a young man in his early twenties stepped out. He was dressed in a fitted black suit with a white inner shirt beneath it. His brown hair was neatly styled, dark sunglasses covered his eyes, and a tiny communication earpiece rested in his left ear.
Everything about him screamed professional security.
He quickly opened the back door.
A man in his early fifties stepped out calmly.
Mr. Kim.
A wealthy businessman feared by many and respected by even more.
The bodyguard followed closely behind him as they entered the hospital and approached the receptionist’s desk.
“Good afternoon, sir. How may I help you?” the receptionist asked politely.
“I’m here to see Dr. Lee,” Mr. Kim replied calmly.
The receptionist’s eyes widened slightly. “Oh, forgive me, sir. You’re Mr. Kim, right?”
“Yes.”
“He’s currently in his office. You may go in.”
“Thank you.”
Without wasting another second, Mr. Kim and his guard headed for Dr. Lee’s office.
Inside the office, Dr. Lee was reviewing some documents when he heard a knock.
“Come in,” he called.
The door opened immediately.
“Good afternoon, sir. Please, have a seat,” Dr. Lee said respectfully after recognizing his visitor.
Mr. Kim shook his hand before sitting down calmly.
“I got your invitation, Doctor.”
“Yes, sir,” Dr. Lee replied carefully, folding his hands on the desk. “It concerns your son. After treating him, we discovered that his injuries weren’t caused by ordinary fire. There may be more to this incident, and I wanted to know if you’d like us to begin an investigation.”
The room suddenly became quiet.
Mr. Kim stared at him expressionlessly.
Then he smiled faintly.
“Doctor, thank you for your concern and for taking care of my son. But there will be no investigation.”
Dr. Lee frowned slightly. “But sir—”
“The matter is closed,” Mr. Kim interrupted coldly. “My son is alive. That’s all that matters.”
His tone carried finality.
Realizing there was no point arguing, Dr. Lee forced a smile. “Understood, sir.”
Mr. Kim stood up slowly and adjusted his suit. “I have a meeting in less than an hour, so I’ll be leaving now.”
The two men shook hands again before Mr. Kim walked out of the office with his bodyguard following behind him.
Dr. Lee sighed deeply once they left.
“There’s definitely something suspicious about this incident…” he muttered to himself while staring at the medical file on his desk.
Outside the office, Mr. Kim adjusted his wristwatch calmly.
“Make him take his last breath,” he said quietly to his guard.
The bodyguard nodded once.
Without hesitation, he turned around and walked back into the office.
Dr. Lee barely had time to look up before the guard pulled a silenced pistol from inside his suit.
Pfft!
The bullet pierced straight through Dr. Lee’s forehead.
His body slumped lifelessly onto the desk instantly.
The guard calmly cleaned the gun, turned around, and walked out like nothing had happened.

The taxi stopped in front of my house, and I paid the driver before stepping out.
The moment I reached the door and turned the knob, my phone suddenly started ringing.
Moorie.
I smiled unconsciously before answering.
“Hello, dear.”
“What’s up? Have you gotten home yet?” she asked immediately.
“Yeah. I literally just arrived.”
“Oh wow, look at me being a perfect timer,” she teased, laughing softly.
I laughed too.
“Take care of yourself, okay? I’ll see you tomorrow at school. And don’t expect us to chat tonight—I’ll be busy.”
I raised an eyebrow. “Busy? What are you doing? Going clubbing?”
“Hell no!” she shouted dramatically. “You’ve started again.”
“Don’t lie to me. I know your type.”
“You know what?” she replied playfully. “Get out of my phone.”
“Oh come on, not this early. I’m just joking. You know teasing you is my thing.”
“I know,” she replied smugly. “And I just got you back.”
I laughed loudly. “f**k you.”
“f**k you too. Byeee. See you tomorrow.”
The call ended.
Still smiling to myself, I entered the house and found Mum sitting comfortably on the couch watching SWIFT on TV.
Her obsession with GP Concept movies is honestly insane, I thought. Though I’m not any better.
“Good afternoon, Mum,” I greeted, dropping onto the opposite couch tiredly.
“Afternoon, son,” she replied warmly. “How was your stay with Moorie?”
“It was okay,” I answered lazily.
Mum smirked immediately. “I’m sure it was. You’ll definitely tell me everything later.”
“Don’t even start, Mum,” I warned jokingly, making both of us laugh.
“I made your favorite meal,” she said while standing up and pausing the movie. “Go freshen up while I serve it.”
I stretched tiredly before standing up.
“Okay, Mum.”
