She took a huge gulp of breath, steadied the rhythm of her heartbeat, then stepped through the open door. Her hands held tightly onto the tray, as she kept her eyes fixed on the floor. Although what Jade had just told her had already found a permanent spot in her mind, Regina shoved it to the deepest part of her heart.

By instinct, she stopped when she came to the middle of the room. And lifted her head just a bit to look at the dowager. The woman sat on a single chair, which had been carefully situated just a few feet from her bed.
