CHAPTER TENIndescribable At half past six an apparition, still wearing its wet coat and hat, stood unannounced in the doorway of Gamadge’s library and looked at him. He was mixing cocktails, and did not at first see his visitor, who gave the impression of being about to depart at any moment as mysteriously as he had arrived.
