Elena didn’t act immediately. That was the difference between impulse… and strategy. For the next two days, she did exactly what she had always done. She smiled when Adrian looked at her,she answered his calls, she asked about his day,she became predictable, comfortable, safe. And Adrian relaxed. That was the point.By the third day, Elena had learned something important.Adrian had patterns, not obvious ones, but consistent enough. He stepped out to take certain calls. He texted more late at night. And most importantly,he guarded his phone less when he felt at ease.So Elena gave him ease. That evening, they sat together on the couch, a movie playing softly in the background.Adrian was half-focused, scrolling through his phone like usual.Elena leaned slightly into him, resting her head against his shoulder.A small gesture, familiar, disarming. He didn’t resist, didn’t question it.If anything, he seemed to settle into it.“Have you been okay?” he asked suddenly. The question caught her attention.Elena tilted her head slightly. “What do you mean?” “I don’t know… you’ve just been… different.Careful,he was noticing something, not everything, but enough.Elena smiled softly.“Different good or different bad?Adrian shrugged lightly. “I guess… calmer.”She let out a quiet laugh.“Is that a problem?” “No,” he said quickly. “Not at all.” Good.Elena shifted slightly, her hand brushing his arm as she reached for her drink, deliberate, light.Just enough to keep him distracted. Then his phone buzzed. She felt it before she saw it.The slight tension in his body. The pause.Adrian glanced down,And for a brief second,Elena saw it,the name.Sophia. He stood up almost immediately.“I’ll take this,” he said, already moving away.Of course you will.Elena watched him walk toward the balcony, the glass door sliding shut behind him.And then, she moved, not rushed, not obvious, just smooth. His phone was still in his hand. But his jacket, was on the chair.Elena stood, walking over casually, like she was just stretching her legs, her fingers slipped into the pocket, and there it was,A second phone, she paused for half a second, then pulled it out. No hesitation this time, the screen lit up,no lock.Elena’s expression didn’t change, but something in her eyes sharpened. She opened the messages, scrolled, and there it was.Everything, this wasn’t just communication. This was organization, planning, coordination, vendors, dates, guest lists. The wedding wasn’t just happening. It was close, her eyes scanned faster now,Until something stopped her completely.A document, attached .She opened it.A seating plan, detailed, structured, finalized,Her gaze moved down the list slowly.Table assignments, names, couples ,families .Then she saw it. Adrian Cole & Sophia Laurent — Head Table Elena’s fingers tightened slightly around the phone, but she kept reading. And then, she froze, because further down…There was another name.A plus-one,not a stranger, not a random guest. Her.Elena Hart — Guest For a second, the world went completely silent. Not hidden, not erased, not even avoided, placed, carefully, deliberately .At a table, away from them. Elena stared at the screen, her expression unreadable. So he didn’t just lie to her.He planned to humiliate her.Publicly,A slow breath left her lips, controlled, measured .Then,She smiled. Not out of amusement. Not out of pain. But because now, everything was clear.Elena locked the phone and slipped it back exactly where she found it.Perfect, untouched, invisible . By the time Adrian walked back in, she was already seated, exactly where he left her.Calm.Composed.Watching the screen like nothing had happened.“Everything okay?” she asked, glancing at him briefly.Adrian nodded. “Yeah. Just work.”Of course.Elena smiled faintly.Because now she knew something he didn’t.He thought he was in control. But he had just shown her the entire board. If he had already decided where to place her… Then she would decide how the story played out instead.
