Emilia's POV
There was no silence in the world.
It suppressed its breathing.
Ash was thick, suffocating, clinging to my skin, clogging my throat, and floating in the air like a thousand dying whispers. I was immobile. unable to breathe. The sky was red. Heat pulsed through the ground. Everything was burning and alive all around me.
He stood poised on the edge.
The Ash-Born.
The sight of him broke my heart.
Something inside him was tearing through muscle and bone, and his hands twitched at his sides as if he were trying to hold it back. His chest heaved as if a beast had moved in, growling impatiently.
