Emilia's POV
I was having trouble breathing.
My heart felt like it was being torn out of my chest with each step I took. I ran with my legs burning and my feet ripped and bleeding from the hard, unforgiving ground, the trees blurring past me. It made no difference. The only things that mattered were the pain and rage that twisted inside of me and propelled me forward like an unseen force.
Why is this how it always ends?
I had no idea where I was heading. I didn't care that the woods were dark and that the branches resembled skeletal hands. All I had to do was run. Get away from the woman who stole everything from me. Avoid the sensation of my heart breaking.
I fell to my knees after tripping over a root, but I got back up. I had to continue. I was unable to stop.
