Chapter 4 Kieran, Dave's Brother When I get back to Dave's room, Peitho, in Dave's body, is on the bed already, his eyes scanning the room, flashing confusion. Peitho looks at me, his eyes flashing royal blue when he sees me approaching, tray in hand. I smile down at him, placing the tray with foods placed on it on the table near his bed. Bea, one of the cooks, has made David or Peitho a steak that is half cooked. A glass of water is placed beside the pearl white plate. Peitho grins widely, seeming excited to eat for probably the first time ever. Peitho reminds me of Dave's attitude. Peitho has the same happiness in his eyes when Dave's happy, or seeming excited. I have probably been looking at him for a long time because Peitho looks at me with curious eyes, tilting his head to the side as he watches me, pouting. I blush at his curious stare on me and nearly scowl but I fight against it. The last thing I want to happen is for Peitho to have a different impression on me. That has happened before when Dave talked to me, thanking me for saving his life but I had slightly snapped at him because I was being awkward and I was really nervous at all. "This is a steak," he says, as if that's the most normal thing to say. I guess that's what the Spirit Realm did to him. Staying there for a long time would make you clueless as the Spirit Realm doesn't have, well, goods and foods. "The last time I ate a steak was, like, a forever ago. I can't even remember that day. Can I eat this now?" A low chuckle escapes my lips and Peitho's cheeks become flustered as he looks down on the steak in front of him. I nod at him with much enthusiasm, eager to see him eat. If Peitho is going to take care of my Dave's body, then Peitho needs to eat a lot of healthy foods. I can get him whatever he wants as long as it's healthy and not going to damage Dave's precious body. Peitho grabs a fork and a knife that are placed beside the glass of water. For a moment, he stares at the silver metal that is reflecting his face, studying it with curious eyes and his face lights up. If Peitho were in his wolf form right now, his tongue would be lolling out and his mouth would be drooling. Peitho tries to cut a piece of steak but fails to do so. I chuckle, seeming it cute and adorable that he doesn't know how to use a knife. I shake my head, small smile playing on my lips. I move around, nearing him and taking the fork and knife out of his hand. Leaning down, I begin to cut the tender meat of the steak, showing him how it's done properly. He watches me cut the steak in a perfect manner, and his face never lets go of that amazed expression. Once done, I place the knife and fork neatly on the side of the plate and watch him in awe. Peitho looks at me, blinking, a grin forming on his lips and he begins to devour the piece that I cut from the steak shamelessly. I laugh at his adorableness, but despite my laughing, he continues to eat, not minding me at all. "Is my brother okay?" Someone just barges into the room and Peitho tenses, standing up and hiding my big frame, looking scared all of a sudden, as if someone who just barged him is about to attack him. Kieran enters the room, wearing a plain light blue shirt, his hair disheveled as if his fingers have been running through it. The way his face contorts into a worried one, Dave is lucky to have a brother like Kieran, who is so caring and loving towards his loved ones. His eyes frantically search for Dave's body and when his eyes land on the figure behind me, his eyes soften. "Is Dave okay?" He asks me directly without moving his gaze on me. I nod, flashing him a small smile. Kieran sighs in relief. Looking at him, he has been in too much stress, starting from he got rejected up to battling rogues few days ago, and now, his caring side is taking its toll on him. Kieran has been in a lot of stress moments. The one I'm about to reveal is going to stress him even more, but he'd like to hear that Peithon will help Dave recover in haste. "Dave, can we talk?" Kieran says in a hopeful tone, trying to get a look of him behind me. Peitho hides behind me, not looking at Kieran. Kieran furrows his brows, his face contorting into a confused one as he looks past me. He sucks in a deep breath, his shoulder sagging down. I shake my head at him and jerk my chin outside, telling him that we need to talk outside. Kieran nods, smiling sadly. He turns on his heels and walks outside. Once the door has been shut, I turn around and face Peitho. "Eat, I'm just going to talk to Kieran. Kieran is Dave's brother. I'll be back in a few." I explain to him. Peitho looks flustered, his cheeks reddening as he realizes what he has done. He nods meekly, moving to sit on the bed again and starting to get the fork and knife. I sigh, beginning to move my legs, not looking over my shoulder to see if Peitho is eating. When I get out of the room, Kieran's back is pressed against the white walls. He has a distant look set on his face, his foot pushed up behind him, resting onto the wall. "Hey." Kieran looks at me with a half smile and pushes down his foot on the ground, seeming awkward all of a sudden. I don't know how to break the news on him, or how should I start. He's probably confused as to why his brother was hiding from him, as if he's scared he'd do something bad on him. But Peitho doesn't know Kieran. Sooner or later, he's bound to know that Kieran is probably the most caring and most loving werewolf ever in history. I wish I had his strength and affectionate side. But we can't have what we want. Frustrated, he sighs, scratching the back of his head and kicking the ground with his foot. He mutters a curse under his breath. I look down at the white marbled floor that is so polished, reflecting my face and the black bags underneath my eyes. "Um," I begin, gulping. Kieran has to know the truth. Dave is his brother. I know that I have no claim over Dave, but he's my mate. Kieran watches me, expecting me to continue the story. I scratch my cheek, flustered. "Sorry for what happened back there." "Dave seems afraid of me, why?" Kieran asks immediately, getting to the point directly. He slips his hands into his pockets, now looking at me with suspicious evident in his eyes. I sigh. I just stay silent for a whole minute, thinking on how to phrase the story better. Awkward silence. "Dave... it's not Dave. The one in the room, I mean." I state, rolling my eyes to myself as I sound dumb at all. Kieran arches a brow at me, crossing his arms across his chest, a low growl escaping out of his lips. I purse my lips, trying to think of words that would suit the story best. "The person is the room is Peitho. Peitho is a wolf. He... he entered Dave's body. Peitho said that Dave is pushed at the back of his head, still unconscious. Peitho said that he'll help Dave recover." "What?" Kieran asks. I flinch at his tone of voice. "Peitho? A wolf?" I nod. "When we were battling the rogues, Dave was there long enough to see everything." I recall what happened, and as much as I hate to remember that horrible day, where a lot of warriors had died, I have to for the sake of enlightening Kieran. Cloud has held a hero's burial for those who have died protecting our pack. Every warrior of the pack has sworn that they would risk their lives just to protect our kind, our world, and each family. "Dave was being attacked by a rogue. He nearly died. Dave was pushed back by the rogue, and he hit his head on the ground, I think. As what Peitho told me, Dave was transported into a Spirit Realm. Peitho was stuck in the Spirit Realm. Just like you, Kieran, Peitho's human form had decided to break the Forbidden Law, which led Peitho to be trapped in the Spirit Realm. When Dave got there, he used Dave as an opportunity to get out of that world. He said he didn't know how it happened. He mentioned a name, I think it's Ean Thomas." "Ean Thomas?" Kieran's eyes are wide. He shakes his head as he looks down on the floor. He curses under his breath. I can practically see the gears working in his head, trying to process what I have just said to him few seconds ago. His hands form into a fist and I can see that he's trying to calm himself down. "When I was in the Spirit Realm to find Furion, there was a wolf, being consumed by a dark fog. The wolf shouted the name. Ean Thomas. I have asked Cloud to ask who Ean Thomas is, but so far, none. But how come? When I was in the Spirit Realm, the wolf was consumed by darkness." "He said he fought and fought," I say simply to him. "Take care of Dave, or Peitho," Kieran says to me. "I trust you with my brother, Perry. I know you have already changed. I have already forgiven you. Do what you must do to protect my brother. I need to know who Ean Thomas is. I need to know what story he had. For the meantime, while we do our research, stay with him and keep him company." Nodding, Kieran bolts out, running through the hallway and disappearing when he makes a left turn at the end. I decide to get back inside Dave's room to see if Peitho is done eating the steak.
