Chapter 1 College Graduation
The day was just beginning. "Can you believe that we are finally graduating, Vincent?" Layla says excitedly as she zips up her gown. "Yeah, it's been a long time coming." Vincent said putting on his cap. It was time to line up for us to procession into the stadium. As LayIa stood there, her mind went back to the day Vincent and her met freshman year. They had an English class together. Vincent was already seated in the front row. Layla normally didn't sit in the front but every desk was taken except for the one next to Vincent. The professor told Layla to sit down cause he was ready to start, and she was already late. Embarrassed she sat down quickly and opened her book. Vincent turned in her direction and gave her a big smile with a thumbs up. The gesture made her laugh and again the professor redirected her to focus in class. After class, Vincent introduced himself and from that day they were the best of friends. Now LayIa stood seven people behind him, but it felt like he is standing right next to her. Vincent continued to turn around and make silly faces, and she kept making silly faces back. They got seated in the stadium. LayIa pulled her phone out and sent a text to Vincent. "I'm so nervous. What if I fall going up to the stage?" "You will be fine." Vincent texted back. Several people gave speeches and many awards were named for those students that went above and beyond what was required. Finally, it was time to get their degrees. Vincent Grange was called and Layla cheered for her friend as he crossed the stage and shook the dean's hand. Then her mind went to her secret that she was soon ready to tell. Layla continued to keep walking until her name was called Layla Knight. She took a deep breath and crossed the stage. Vincent made the loudest whistle, clapped and shouted "you go girl". Layla turned red from the embarrassment but continued to focus on her walk so she wouldn't fall. Forty minutes later the graduation was over. The Graduates processioned out to the main part of the stadium to meet with family and friends. Layla met up with her family and through all the thousands of people around she spotted Vincent who was looking in her direction. For a brief moment, it was like they were the only two people standing in the stadium. At that same moment, Layla's phone rang. "Hello." she said. "Hey, would you like to have a celebratory dinner with my family and I." Vincent asked. "That is funny because my parents were just saying for me to call you." Layla said laughing. "Okay, me us at the buffet in ten minutes." Vincent stated. "See you there." Layla said hanging up. They all arrived at the restaurant at the same time. The atomosphere was lively. The restaurant had decorated the dining room in maroon and white to represent the colors of the school. Many families were celebrating their graduates. The Grange and Knight family found a large table to sit in the back of the restaurant where it wasn't so noisy. The moms sat together and the dads sat together. Vincent and Layla sat together. The conversation was light. Vincent and Layla mostly talked about the after party that Vincent was hosting at the hotel.
