Chapter 2

lucas turned In shock only to see kai at his house he was so surprised and amazed at the same time,his face glared up in shock,

"kai what exactly are you doing at my home, as far as I remembered I did not invite you" lucas spoke with a harsh tone

"chill Lucas sam just asked me to return your note books he was in a hurry an emergency came up at his home"

"Lucas is this also your friend why are you talking to him that way, you are just on time kai we were about to have dinner come join us in the dinning,lucas go call zara upstairs" Lucas mom said with a smile on her face.

"mom you don't even know him yet and you are offering him dinner"

"Lucas this isn't how I raised you go upstairs and get your sister"

"ok mum,I wonder what he is doing here,he just badged in as if he owns this house I thought he has a huge house" he said to himself while going upstairs.

lucas climbed the stairs slowly wondering why Kai suddenly showed up at his house

"zara" he called,knocking gently at the door ."mom said dinner is ready"

"come in" a voice answered from inside

lucas went in and saw her sister on the bed "zara" he called " we have a visitor "

"A visitor? at this hour and I don't remember anybody visiting in the past years,who could that be?" she asked with all curiosity

"it's lucas"

Zara raised an eye."Lucas? same lucas at your school what his he doing here I thought you guys don't get along"

" i don't know also he said he was here to return my book but I don't believe him the lucas i know wouldn't do that"

"oh maybe he is here to apologize"

"apologize I don't think so he is not that type to apologize, he is a spoilt brat"

while they were still talking a voice came from downstairs

"zara and Lucas come downstairs before the food get cold"

The siblings walked downstairs together .As they entered the food has already been set on the dining.

"oh there you are" lucas mother said happily "everyone have a seat"

kai glanced at lucas with a teasing smile

"don't just stand there come get your food or are you waiting to be served you are not at your house where you have staff who do that for you" lucas said while raising is brows.

"lucas stop the argument and have your food" said the mom.

Lucas rolled his eyes while taking the seat across kai , deep down he couldn't shake the feelings that Kai wasn't here to give him his books only.

kai reached for the serving spoon,a grin tugging at the corner of his lips.

"are you always this welcoming to guests" he asked.

Lucas scoffed " only the annoying ones"

kai chuckled." you really don't like me do you?

"i think you are quite aware of that" lucas muttered while staring at kai.

"That's a shame"he said with a faint smile "I was hoping we would at least be friends."

lucas let out a dry laugh "don't get your hopes up I know you are only pretending because of family"

Zara teased " I think you guys are more like friends than enemies"

they both stared at Zara with annoyance

Zara exchanged a look with Mrs smith ( mum) and burst into laughter" sorry guys I was just joking I did not mean it".

The dining room slowly turned silent as everyone turned their attention to the meal.The aroma of the freshly prepared meal filled the air accompanied only by the soft clinking of cutlery against the plates. Lucas kept his eyes on the food but he could still feel kai's presence across him. every now and then he caught kai glancing at his direction making it more difficult to believe that kai was only here to return his books.

dinner was over and Lucas couldn't wait for kai to leave, every now and then he kept on staring at the clock or towards the door.

after the long wait Kai finally thanked Mrs smith for the meal before picking up his bag.

Lucas wasted no time walking towards the door hoping Kai would get the hint.

mrs smith smiled warmly "kai i think you should stay over it is getting too late"

lucas lifted his eyes up "mom I don't think that Is necessary I promise you his house is close by just a few steps he would be there"

"lucas you need not to worry I never told you I was staying". Kai smiled warmly and shook his head "Thank you Mrs smith i would have loved to stay but I did not tell anyone at home my mom must be worried, I would love to take my leave now"

mrs smith nodded in understanding impressed by his thoughtfullness. After thanking the family once more,and waved at Zara.

zara nodded her head "i thought I was invisible thank goodness someone finally noticed me"

Before leaving he glanced at lucas with a small smile on his face.lucas simply folded his arms and watched until Kai left the house completely.

After closing the door lucas let out a quiet sigh, feeling as though a heavy weight has been lifted from his shoulders.

Back in the living room zara continued teasing Lucas. while Mrs smith praised kai's good manners. lucas insisted they were giving kai too much credit but no one was convinced. The conversation went on for a while before everyone eventually retired to their room for the night.

Golden rays of sunlight slipped through the curtains the next morning,pulling lucas from his sleep.After getting ready and eating his breakfast he took his school bag and hurriedly left for school.

The school grounds were already filled with chatter.students hurried through the gates, greeting friends and comparing homeworks, while teachers made their way into the staff room. Lucas spotted sam waiting near the classroom entrance,waving him over with a wide grin.

he waved back to sam while paving his way to get to him.

"sam" he called out loudly

sam responded and continued waving. finally lucas got to where sam was standing.

sam let out a huge smile " I heard Kai was at your home yesterday"

lucas responded with a sigh " yeah he was but he told me you asked him to return my book."

sam was about responding when the classroom teacher called them into the class.

"Good Morning students"

"Good morning ma" all the students responded in unism

after the teacher and students exchanged their greetings, the teacher held her chest for a minute

"class we the teachers has decided who would go for this competition and I don't want any argument please I will appreciate if you all comply and follow my instructions."

they all nodded in understanding.the teachers moved her hands and pointed at lucas,Kai, Sam,Kelvin and Tom.

" from your last classroom teacher he reported that you guys are definitely good in spelling and I think you all will be the representative of this class"

the teacher wasn't done speaking when kelvin interrupted her with his laughter

"ma I am so sorry for laughing but even if this guys are my friends I wouldn't want to be in a competion with them, lucas and kai is already a problem for me and you are adding the other two that's hilarious" he nodded his head in disappointment.

" the decision has already been made dear you will have to accept it, I can't change it for you, so all I can say is all the best, let's get back to today's class" the teacher said while hinting at him to sit down

The whole class suddenly burst into laughter, students starters speaking slowly as if they were not happy with the decision

"silence every one let's get back into today's lecture now open your textbook to page 102" the teacher spoke furiously.

The whole class became silent again with only the sounds of book pages flipping and markers writing on the board . the lunch break bell was rang everyone left the classroom to go get food from the cafeteria.

As they made their way to the cafeteria, kelvin nudged kai with a teasing grim.

"so..... what were you doing at Lucas's house yesterday I know someone like you wouldn't visit him"

kai looked at kelvin with a dry smile " I just went to return his books that's all"

kelvin laughed loudly"I wish that was true but you know we have been friends since middle school this is high school I know someone like you wouldn't visit anyone for that reason you just gave"

"what exactly do you want to hear from me, that they are not as rich as my family and is house isn't as big as mine and I love teasing him is that what you want to hear" kai raged in anger

Kelvin's eyes light up in shock " that's not what I meant I was only teasing you why are you taking it this far."

Before kelvin could say any other word,the sound of a plate crashing against the floor echoed through the cafeteria.

both kai and kelvin turned around immediately.

Lucas stood a few feet away.frozen In place, his lunch scattered over the cafeteria and the plate spinning before finally came to stop.several student turned to stare whispering amongst themselves.

kai's eyes widened.

"Lucas.."

lucas slowly walked towards them,his expression unreadable.

kai shook his head quickly "is not what you think, I promise you"

lucas looked straight at kai

"then tell me what it is. did you really think my house was small, just because you have a big house and a wealthy family doesn't mean you are above everybody, have I ever met you for anything kai... no tell me have I?" lucas spoke with his eyes in tears

kelvin responded " it was my fault, I didn't mean to"

"can you keep your mouth shut, it is high time you stop defending this mannerless being, you will never have a good place in his life cause he thinks everyone is underneath him,just stop defending him, he is not going to kill you."lucas spoke with anger and disappointment

kelvin was about responding when kai grabbed his hands and nodded.lucas continued speaking

"Kai i can take anything from you all your bullies, and talks I can take them but don't you ever insult my family again,yes we don't have enough but we are happy with what we have"

Lucas left the cafeteria with tears on his eyes.

The cafeteria felt silence as Lucas disappeared through the door. the cheerful atmosphere from a moment ago disappeard.

sam and tom who has witnessed this from a nearby table, slowly walked towards kai. Their expressions were filled with disappointment

sam was the first to speak...

"kai... i never thought you would say such a thing.

kai's eyes widened up in disbelief

sam trust me that's not what happened.

Tom folded his hands across his chest

" then what exactly happened? because from we were it sounded like lucas was being looked down on because of his family"

kai clenched his fist and left angrily leaving everyone surprised, kelvin lowered his gaze

" it was my fault I was teasing him because he went to Lucas's house, I'm sorry guys I never knew it would get to this, I'm really sorry."

kelvin sighed deeply "everything happened so fast and I couldn't explain, it's all my fault their relationship wasn't even that good now I have ruined everything for them"

sam placed his hands trying to console kelvin "it wasn't your fault there weren't able to communicate properly, don't worry I will look for him and talk to him"

Tom raised his head in shock " you want to do what?"

"talk to him of course"sam replied without hesitation

tom placed his hands on sam's shoulder "oh sam it is better you allow them sort it out, you saw what happened when kelvin tried to explain"

sam sighed still looking worried

" but kai".....
