Hunting the wings {Part 2}

We were standing in the meeting hall of NY fire department, searching for the woman who saved my life but unfortunately she was none of them. "Who's this Captain again you mentioned about before?" Eva asked suddenly looking at me, rubbing my back. "She's the Captain of A1 section along with a vice Captain. But She's off duty right now because of the injuries." Ben said without looking at us using the iPad. "When will she rejoin the duty? Can you provide us her address, if permitted, we can go there and see her?" Kayden said as we made our way to the exit. "I am not sure but I'll try to ask her. And about rejoining, I think she'll be here till next week." He explained as we pass through back from the familiar corridors to our way out of the station. "I think maybe I can call her right now and ask right away. She's my close friend so she won't mind either. I know it could be really annoying not being able to get things you had been trying hard to achieve. Wait a bit. " Ben said giving a sympathetic smile and went to call her. "How are you....No it's fine....oh sure. Okay.... I'll keep you updated..... I'll give them....yeah take care." I heard Ben's faint voice in between the calls from the distance. "I don't understand this woman. Is she a ghost or what! It's like she vanished." Kayden kicked a stone from his toe and huffed in annoyance. Eva and me were sitting on a bench outside watching squirrels run here and there, birds sitting on ground together then flew up so fast like they're missing their flight. "Agnett, are you alright? Having pain anywhere?" Kayden asked me as I shook my head. It was almost noon and I have been walking here and there with my broken body. "Yeah i am fine, just a little pain in leg." I said as he rushed to the parking lot, without saying a word. Soon Ben came back with a little smile on his face. "Looks like we are finally going to see the ghost." Eva said throwing her arms back of her head and sighed loudly. "Oh shut up Eva." I sed as Ben laughed. "Okay kids. Wait, where is Kayden?" Ben asked. "He had an superman emergency, I guess." "Only as long as, evils like you are living." kayd came back with a medicine wrapper and water bottle In his hands just after she finished. We were so engrossed in our search that I literally forgot about my medicines. But why fear when your personal doctor is always there! "Here take these medicines." He handed me the pills and water bottle, as I gulped down the horrible tasted medicines, scrunching face and not liking the taste even a bit. "Okay so, I got a good news and bad news both. Which one first?" He asked crossing his muscular arms over his chest that made Eva dance mentally. "Pleaaseeee good one first." Kayden said throwing his arms in air. "Okay so I talked to her father and we got the permission to share her address, that I'll give you and you all can go to meet her by yourself, or if you need, I can take you there." Ben said and I felt light in my chest. "But-"  "nononono let it end on good news only. No bad. I can't stroll more and search up more firefighters. We got her it's her that's it." Eva cut him off covering her ears dramatically. "You are quite the impatient one." Ben commented chuckling which made Eva shut up instantly. "What's the bad one?" Kayden asked as stood in front of Ben, hands in pocket. "It's that, you can go to her but you won't be able to meet her. She has been gone to one of her relatives for past 4 days and I am not sure when she'll be back. If you'll go, you'll find her father but not her. She had 2 week medical leave by the department or if needed we will extend it too according to the situation. So as much I know her, she hates missing her job days because she's really dedicated to it so maybe she'll be back in 2-3 days. It would already be a week from then." Ben explained everything as we thought over it for pretty 5 minutes in silence. "As we have already gotten this far, I don't want to leave it for Tomorrow. If we can't meet her right now, it's ok but at least her dad would be there and I'll leave my greetings for her to her father. At least I'll be in peace. And I have been really patient with this but not anymore, because I waited like so much to thank her and I'll do it today no matter what. Even if she wouldn't turn out to be the one, I'll be fine. I just want to find her ASAP." I said all in such a frustrating determination, standing up and taking my support sticks that everyone were just staring at me in silence. "O...Kay. as you people find alright." Ben broke the awkward silence. "Are you sure? I think you should rest now. You haven't recovered yet." Eva said touching my shoulder gently but I shook my head. "Nobody can win her when she's stubborn." Kayden said shrugging. Soon we took the address from Ben and headed to our destination. When we reached there, I couldn't help but admire the beautiful medium big house that was giving positive vibes just by staring at it. 2 story apartment with glass windows and doors, except the main entrance and a shutter garage. A gorgeous small garden filled with lots of flowers and beautiful vines and a cute nest swing on the big tree of I-don't-know-what-is-it at the very side of the garden, giving it most peaceful view. I was lost of words, it was so simply beautiful. "This is the cutest house I have ever seen!" Eva exclaimed in awe as Kayden helped me to stand straight. "Indeed. It's definitely quite and out of the city's noisy area." He replied as we went inside the big iron gate, reaching to the entrance. My feet was definitely starting to kill me because it started to feel numb and painful. In the whole day I wasn't so bothered but now it was hurting. Kayden rung the doorbell 2 times but no reply so he rung and knocked as well. After some minutes a coarse voice came from inside the house. "Oh wait a minute! What impatient people are now these days!" We heard a mature and deep voice, complaining from the other side of the door. The door clicks and revealed a man around his 50s looking at us sharply. "How can I help you kids?" He asked framing the door with arms crossed around his chest. He indeed looked pretty buildup and was giving 'Not the one with whom you can mess around' vibe. His blue eyes were a bit wrinkled showing his wise side with a touch of tenderness, dressed in a check shirt and pants. "Um, are you Eugene Lorenzo?" I asked with a soft voice even though my leg was killing me. "Yes I am and how can I help you?" He asked watching between we three people as Eva handed him the bouquet of flowers. "We are here to thank a woman fire fighter who saved my friend in the club incident and Lieutenant Ben from the Fire department gave us your address." Kayden said politely and suddenly the man's eyes softened. "Oh so you're the kids. You should have told me earlier! Come on in. Sorry if I scared you." He suddenly broke a sunny grin which was such a surprise. We three looked at each other as the man gestured us to go inside. "Ben called me some time before telling me about you, I didn't know you people are the one. please sit down kids and I'll get you something." He giggled at first, setting the flowers in the vase and then headed inside before we could have refused him to not worry about it. As soon we entered inside, aroma of orange and jasmine filled my nostrils. It felt calm and sunny in summer days. I trailed my eyes all over the place catching everything, peach walls, simple but classy lamps, decorations, interior which was very elegant with a touch of womanly choices and it was perfect. They kept roaming until I saw something that catched my eyes at the left of the coffee table. A bracelet. That almost matched with the one Raven had... except the Initial letter, this time it had the letter 'F' and 'R' with 'J'. I glanced at it more sharply thinking it might be different but it was totally like that. Confused, I just stared at it until distracted by Mr. Lorenzo coming back with a tray of water glass and a heating pad. What? "Thanks for the flowers kids, If you need anything else do tell me without hesitation and take this, it'll ease your pain a bit." He handed me the heating pad giving me a warm smile. How did he know? "Your face tells different story dear, and your foot seemed swollen so I thought it'll help." He said going back inside the kitchen, almost reading my mind. "Oh, he's so sweet." Eva said smiling and helped me to put my foot up. Kayden inspected it and gave me a warning look like 'this is the last time I listened to you!' It was actually very swollen, Kayden took the heating pad and started fomenting my leg, Resting on the pillow. Mr. Lorenzo emerged back with a place filled with cookies and coffee that made my mouth water. He set them on table and took seat with us. "So mind to tell me your name kids?" He asked grinning and I nervously chewed my lip. "Of course! I am Kayden, this is Agnett Raymond and the brainless one over here is Eva Jones." We extended our hands for shake one by one which Mr. Lorenzo took warmly. "Nice to meet you Mr. Lorenzo." We said all formally causing the man to shook his head. "No need to be so formal kids, just call me Eugene." He said and we nodded in unison. "So you are here to see my daughter, right?" He said and we all nodded our heads. "Yeah. I hope this time we got the right one. Your daughter's name is Dee right?" Kayden asked him to be more clear. "Yeah but that's the nick name her friends and colleagues calls by. Her real name is Raven Lorenzo." He said casually sipping his coffee. Wait ....What! "Excuse me, did you say Raven?" I must have misheard it, right? I was dumbstruck that I almost screamed, causing Kayden and Eva looking at me in utter confusion. "Yes, why what's wrong?" He asked frowning stopping his cup in middle. Is it her? If it's her than why didn't she told me about this in the hospital? But if she's really her then she wouldn't have asked about my injuries, she seemed so unknown to that knowledge. I am so confused right now!!! Wait, she had tattoos... she had piercings... short black hairs... Oh my god! And she was injured too at the same time!  And the f*****g BRACELET! It's almost like hers My head was spinning in utter shock and confusion. What if it's not her but someone else? it's not important that was her exactly, she could be one of the victims too but then again what does this all mean?! It's can't be just a coincidence! "Agnett, Agnett! Are you okay?" Kayden called me, shaking my shoulders. "Yeah I..I am fine. Everything's good." I replied still thinking about the situation I was in. "So, I was saying, Miss. Raven saved Agnett in the club's fire breakout that night. We lost her inside but anyhow she took her out of the danger at last when we hadn't any hope. We saw her that time but with our preoccupied tensed heads we barely saw her properly and couldn't ask her name, until now we finally found her and Agnett wanted to thank her by herself." Kayden completed the whole thing on which Eugene nodded, holding his chin. "It's very sweet of you that you came to thank her but unfortunately The Devil is at her cousin's place because of the injuries. She'll be back within 2 3 days then you people can meet her too. You all can come here anytime you feel like, treat it as your own house." He explained which made me have warm feeling inside but hearing him call his daughter The Devil almost made us laugh. He seemed so open and contained at the same time, like without knowing much he still have a great eye for the character. That almost reminded me of her. Oh god! What's happening! "Are you okay Agnett? You look pale. Is there anything you need? Medicine or something because your leg doesn't look good at all. You should have taken enough rest after the incident because your body still need time to heal. You shouldn't run here and there like a rabbit right now." He gently scolded like a teacher but still considerate. I smiled hearing his words but if was soon fade away when I saw Kayd's smirk. "You are very much right. She never listens and about meeting the women, she ate my head every morning and evening, telling me to take her with myself. She acted like a total brat! And I am happy she is getting scolded." Kayden took everything out in one breathe on which Eugene laughed gently. Kayden was still massaging my leg cautiously, to not hurt it And that felt better than before. "Mrs. Lorenzo seems a lady who loves plants very much. The garden is really beautiful." Eva spoke up after a silence, complimenting the garden on which Eugene's face got pale. "Umm, She don't live with us. She left both of us when Raven was 15, so it's just me and my daughter. And yeah she's indeed a plant lover." Eugene said with a sad smile and Eva's face fell badly in guilt for bringing her up unintentionally. We sat in silence which was really awkward and the sound was the tik-tik of clock. It made my head hurt. I think I might have a way. Scanning through the whole room, taking everything in sharply, I searched for some familiar belongings. There would be definitely one! My eyes stopped at a wooden cabinet on which there were pictures. I suddenly got up taking my leg down from his hands and headed towards it, bringing my stick. Kayden was about to say something but closed his mouth. As I get closer the faces became more clearer, until I saw a picture of a couple holding a baby boy and a girl by their side. "That's our family photo. You can see Raven and Fiona in that, she was a little demon in her childhood days! Haha! She never liked taking lot of pictures of her." Eugene spoke up brightly as I touched the photo. The little girl was around her teenage with middle back length black hairs, pale skin and rosy cheeks. She was looking really pretty with a sunny dress. So opposite. But the resemblance was familiar still I refused to agree. It was hard to tell if it's her with her soft, girly features. I think mom's advice might help now. "I think I am fine now Kayd. Thankyou so much Mr- I mean Eugene for your warm concern and I am really thankful of your daughter who saved me like an angel. I hope she gets better soon, also If you don't mind. My parents had asked you to have dinner at our place. If you both will come, it'll be a lot for us." I said turning back to them thinking what I was going to do. Kayden and Eva looked at each other. "We can't repay for what she has done for me but take it as a sign for gratitude from our side." I said smiling hoping he agrees. "Well, it's her job to save people, dear. What she has done is her responsibility and her duty but it's totally up to her if she will come or not. She won't say no definitely but it's her choice." He explained all reasonably and I nodded. "Can I have her number if you don't mind, I'll ask her and then if she agrees, she'll also inform me of your arrival?" I asked hesitantly looking at him in nervousness. "Sure why not." I handed him my phone and he typed up the information, giving it back to me after some minutes. "I have saved both of ours number for your convenience. She mostly be busy at her work so sometimes doesn't pick up so if it happens you can call me if there's any need." He said smiling escorting all of us outside. It was almost dark when we reached to our car. "Finally we found the heroine after ages! Now the other heroine must be in peace, right?" Eva exclaimed dramatically and I rolled my eyes, making everyone laugh. "It was great meeting you Eugene. Sorry for the troubles we caused you today." Kayden shook his hand and Eugene patted his back in fatherly love. "I am sorry for scaring you three first!" And we giggled. "Have a good night kids." He wished us as Kayden helped me to sit inside the car. "Good night. Bye!" We three bid our goodbyes as Kayden ignited the car, leaving the man behind. "Even though I am tired, our hard work paid off also I had a really good time with Mr. Lorenzo." Eva said sighing and rolled in the backseat. "Yeah. Me too." Kayden replied looking forward on the road smiling. I felt him glancing at me in between, trying to figure what I was thinking. "Why are you so silent, Agnett. Are you feeling alright?" Kayden put his palm on my forehead checking if I might have gotten fever because of body pain. He then grabbed my night pills and handed to me, which I had to take sadly. "I am fine just leg is hurting a bit and head spinning." Kayden shook his head slowly showing how much he was done with my stubbornness. "See, that's why I don't wanted to trouble you so much today but you never listen. If Uncle Aunty scolded me because of you, I'll make you do my weekly assignment after you'll recover." He snorted in annoyance and kept driving. "You're so sweet Kayd, you still care that I can't do it right now so you will wait for me to get well. I know you are mad but our time didn't get wasted, we found her and I am happy." I said smiling still confused if I really found her or not. His eyes softened and he sighed. "Just sleep a bit for now, okay. I can't be mad at you longer and you know that." He touched my cheek and kissed my forehead, as I closed my eyes, feeling the breeze from Window. I don't know if what Raven said was truth or a lie that she's a boxing trainer. Didn't she know that I was the one she saved? But if she remembered me then why would she lie about her profession? Whatever it is, I'll figure it out anyhow. I'll hunt for the wings...
