CHAPTER 46 ANOTHER TWO WEEKS passed, and the festive season was in full swing. By then, I was beginning to lose hope as well as more weight. Sam was too, I could tell, but I refused to voice my fears because that would make them real. My Spanish had improved markedly, and I’d started learning Portuguese just in case we needed to spend time in Brazil.
