The cab ride felt like forever. My heart pounded as I rehearsed how I’d explain everything to Dylan. I checked my watch—it was nearly midnight. I thought about the decorations I’d spent so much time planning with Amari, the cake, and the small gifts carefully wrapped and placed around the room. But mostly, I thought about how Dylan might be waiting, possibly disappointed. I feel like I am flying while I entered the house. It’s already dark and no noise so I immediately go up to his room, entering quietly. But as soon as I stepped inside, the scene took my breath away.
