Chapter Twenty-Eight - Promise

1977 Words

“Should I get checked for pills?” I asked, my voice small, unsure. Dylan’s hand caressed my cheek, his thumb brushing over my skin with a gentleness that made my heart ache. “Why? Are you scared of getting pregnant?” he asked his tone light but laced with concern. I pinched his arm playfully. “I’m still young,” I replied, a nervous laugh escaping me. He raised an eyebrow, a teasing smile pulling at his lips. “Oh, I should be in jail for making love to someone so young?” His voice was playful, and the way he looked at me made my heart flutter. I couldn’t help but laugh along with him, the tension of the moment dissolving into something softer, sweeter. “You know I still have responsibilities to my siblings,” I said, my voice quieter now, more serious. “I haven’t finished school yet.”
