The Aces

C H A P T E R 7

KIM’s POV

I’m part of our school’s volleyball team and I’m one of the aces in that sport. Well, my ability that can read minds made me be one of those people in the aces.  I’m really tired and exhausted because of practicing all day long. Well,we must practice for the inter school competition even though its still far. I was on my way to the dorm when I saw Mel walking soul less. She just face the ground and walk like she’s the owner of that path way. She really looks so cute and beautiful with her outfit today. I found myself following her. It is not my intention though but I think my mind has his own mind and she followed her along. I can’t read Mel’s mind sometimes. She’s really the opposite of everyone around here. “Where did she come from?” I asked myself. I saw read shocked when she bump into Bella. She’s one of the beauties of the school. Actually at first, I like Bella but as the days passed by, I don’t think I can like her anymore. She really thinks everyone in this school is head over heals for her. She’s actually the reason why Zel and Nine broke up. To tell you the truth, me and nine ALMOST got a fight just because of her but we realized that our friendship is much more than precious than the others. So as the eldest, I gave Bella up just to protect our friendship. Maybe everything happens for a reason because when I gave up on Bella, Zel suddenly came in on the story. Nine already knew how bad b***h Bella is. He diverted his attention and Zel caught his apple of the eye. I like Zel as a friend and nothing more. When Bella found out that me and Nine almost fight about her, she gossip it to every body. And in that moment I really thanked myself for giving her up. She doesn’t deserve love because firstly, she can’t love. She just fling. I honestly had no girl friend since birth and when I have to have a girlfriend soon, I want her to be the mother of my children. A single girl is enough for me. I can love her unconditionally.

I dozed off a little and I can’t find Mel anywhere.

“Why did I ever thought about Bella,again?” I thought and just sighed.

I was about to go to the dorm when I caught Mel going inside the library still walking soul less.

I followed her again and I made sure I was a little distant to her. I took a book but not to read,just a props in case I might get caught. Her eyes sparkled when she figured out that she’s on the library. I saw her took books and read. I had fun just looking at her while reading. Her expressions shows that she really likes reading. I bet she’s a studios person.

She reads for like 6 hours and I stare at her also for 6 hours. She finished the book she was reading and stretch a little. Even her hands and arms are so cute. I mean, she’s a small person. I bet her height is 160cm? But compared to my height which is 183cm, I find her small. She marched outside the library without noticing me. This is my first time seeing the books being put in the shelf correctly. The books here has the tendency to go back to its place if the reader of that book left her behind for 1 minute. But this time, she really placed the books in the shelf correctly and perfectly. I followed her outside and saw her playing with Wei.

Wei likes her I can say. She holds Mel’s hair carefully like it is a glass. I think Wei is comfortable being with her. Even the wind likes her.

Wei took dried leaves and slowly but majestically pour it above Mel. And with that scene, I finally got a look at Mel’s beautiful laugh. Her teeth are so white and her smiling lips are just so beautiful to watch. She looks cute,too. I stare at them while playing when I decided to interrupt them. Wei hates me. I don’t know why but she never played with me. She likes Min instead.

Her smiled faded and I feel sorry for that. It was replaced by confusion. I tried to read her mind but its too strong. I felt a little dizzy. I adore her and I’m glad she still remembers me. I saw some leaves stuck in her hair.  She’s tried to get those but she can’t. I helped her instead. I went near her and I can feel the butterflies roaming around my stomach. I tried to remain calm but I can’t. She smells very nice. I took this time to savor the moment that I am near her. I know Nine has a little crush on her and please, not again Nine. I can’t afford losing you or losing the person I like again.

My heart beats faster when I stoke her hair. She flinch a little and I felt a little awkward. I think we stood there for almost a couple of minute.

“There there, even though your hair is messy you are still beautiful.” I said sincerely. May be this is what they called love or like at first sight? The moment she ate with us, I kept staring at her.

She said she’s a little chilly and she wants to go to the dorm. We went inside and I can feel the awkwardness between us so I broke the silence.

“Please. Don’t feel awkward. I’m not used to it.” I said. She looked at the ground and said,”I’m sorry. It was my first time to feel like this.” Then she awkwardly laugh while still looking down.

“Its my first time to be near to a guy except my father.” She said.

Okay,she’s trying to open her side now. But one thing is still mysterious to me.

“Where are you from?” I asked. She looked at me and I tried to read her mind but  I can’t. What’s the matter though?

“Can I trust you? Its like we only met for days.” She said then looked away.

Does she likes looking away while talking?

“If you’re doubting or not confident to tell me,Its is okay.”  I mean it. Its really fine.

“Well.” She said “I don’t know If I’ll trust you but I think you are a trustworthy person.” she said. Then her words are like hypnotizing me and make me say,”just continue. I’ll listen.”

She first make sure that no one’s listening.

“i came from the human world.” she said then that makes me shocked. So are those people looks like her? I mean,she’s beautiful and kind. She radiates positive energy to me. Are all people like her?

“My dad is the only person that I cherished the most. I have no mom. Basically, I have my mom but I don’t know her.” she said emotionally. I want to tap or rub her back but I choose not to. Its still early to do that.

“Why are you here if you’re a human?” I asked while looking at her.

“Honestly speaking, I don’t know. My dad decided to send me here after the bad guy targeted out house one night. I know he’s after me because they want to kill me but my dad came and saved me.” she said. So its unplanned.

She started crying quietly but I can hear her sniffs.

“I miss my dad,Kim.” she said. I don’t know what’s going on outside this realm but one thing’s for sure, the bad guy is still hunting me. Earlier a wind hugged me when I was doing hanging my laundry. But the wind gradually became bad and it drag my shirt southward.” she said then hugged herself.  

This time,I pity her because she has to deal with these kind of people/

“That bad guy,is he also a human being?” I asked with full of curiosity.

“No. I saw him disappear.” She said. Then that means,

“That bad guy is not a human being. He’s a creature like us.” I said then suddenly looked at me straight in the eye.

“You mean, some of the people here are bad guys?” She asked.

“Creatures here also wears a mask but they are not bad as Black Bloods.” I said. I suddenly want to thank my pedagogue for teaching me about black blood creatures.

“Black bloods?” she asked confused.

“yes, they are all wearing black long hoods. They are the one’s who victimized the people in the streets, gets the new born baby and everything that happens bad in your previous world are the actions of the Black Bloods.” I explained. She finds it amusing and is able to listen for more. I mean, her face speaks it all. I still can’t read her mind.

“According to our pedagogue they have red bloody eyes and some has fangs. The people stereotyped us,White Bloods to be like them. They are bad creatures while Black bloods are bad people. Their queen, Rhea is the sister of our Empress Tiana.” I explained. These were from my pedagogues.

“Have you ever see the Empress?” she asked.

“I dreamed of meeting her one day but all of the students here except the Maple Class  do not know the Empress’ face. We only knew her name. Only the Maple Class has the right to see the Empress and know the real story of this war and how this realm was formed.” I can see the determination in her eyes. She wants to see the Empress,too.

“You know what’s bothering me? Why do they attacked me and why does my dad had this some kind of magic paper and why did everyone talked behind me after bowing when I came here?”

I myself thought with that question. They can be some reason why they want to kill Melody instead of giving her as a form of sacrifice to their queeen?

“Also, before I forgot this information, everything that they captures, they sacrifice it to their queen and their queen eats it.” Her straight face went disgusted by that fact.

“I also can see that everyone bows at you for respect and after that, they l talk behind your back because its the first time that they saw you.” I’m trying to comfort her and give her assurance that creatures in this realm are good even though they have their masks on.

“Did you already found out your ability?” I asked her and her face went straight again.

“I have to ask you that.” She said.

“yes?” I asked.

“Do you have an ability?” She asked me with curiosity. Her eyes are so serious and she’s kinda scary with that face.

“yes, I do have.” She really had a lot of facial expression.

“Really? Can I see?” She asked amused.

“But I can’t read your mind. My ability is mind reading but you’re the only person that I can’t get into.” I said with the perseverance of reading her.

She went sad. “I think I’m a little special. Why can’t you read it?” She asked and has sadness and confusion in her eyes. I really want to answer you,babe but I still can’t figure out why.

“Why do we have abilities?” She asked plainly.

“Well, maybe because we need it as a tool and weapon to defeat black bloods.” I said coolly.

“Possible if I’m still in our Maple class but still can’t find it?” she asked me with pure sadness. I starting to pity her again. Agh!

“No. Things takes time. It has to be in the perfect time.” I assured her with a smile.

“ School’s starting two days from now.” She said with a smile. “I’m a little bit excited on how your education works here.” she said then giggled. She really has a lot of expressions. Maybe that is her ability but I did not told her that. Its not correct though. I just observed her.

I heard her stomach growling making my stomach to growl,too.

“I think we should eat first before going to our dorms.” I said then she laughed.

“I think, yeah.” she said.

”What’s your room number?” I asked her and she said,”313.”

Okay--wait what? “We are room mates?” I said then lead her down to the steps.

“I think so.she said the laughed a little.

“You enrolled today right? I just saw you. What room were you in when you’re not enrolled?” I asked.Of course I’m curious like Nine.

“Still in 313.” I am shocked when I heard that!

“Meaning you have that Maple leaf stuck on your wrist without enrolling first?’ I asked her with a really weird expression.

“Yeah, a guy named Ceasar gave me this.” she said then looked at the leaf.

“Wait- Ceasar?” I stopped then looked at her dumbfounded.

“My father’s name is Ceasar and mom said since the day I was born, dad came for a mission outside the realm.” I want to cry. I want to see my dad in person. I only saw him in the photos mom gave me.

I remembered my wallet, I had their photo with me.

“Here, is he like this?” I asked her.

She stare at the photo and slowly nodded. The photo is a lilttle bit old. I just fold the half of it because it was my dad’s friend.

“can I see the whole picture?” She asked.

I took the picture and unfold it. There and then, it was revealed.

“That’s my dad.” She said then tears fell from her eyes. My tears fell too.

We looked at each other and cried. We hugged each other to give comfort.

“Maybe the Empress really destined us to meet.” I said then she nodded.

We decided to eat first then talk a lot more.

We ordered sunflower burger and veggies just to pair the food.

“He looks just like you,Kim.” she said then took a bite.

My mom told me that,too.

She told me my dad dressed like a beggar then gave her that leaf.

I don’t know the real reason is but I gained happiness and contentment about the small details about dad.

She really makes my day complete.

“Mel, we should be friends. Like really friends.” I told her while we’re going upstairs.

“Sure. You ca count on me and I can count on you.” She said as we reached our floor.

“We should talk a lot tomorrow.” I said then grab my door

“Sure thing. I’ll be in my room. You can also call me if you ant. We can hang around.” Sh said that makes me smile more.

“I will. Goodnight, princess.” She looks shock but took it right away and said,”Good night,Kim.” then smiled and entered.

My day is exhausting. I never thought this would be the real Melody. He funny,clever and can give me such happiness that I can feel in my entire life. I showered then go to bed.

I want Melody’s company now. I closed my eyes and sleepiness creeps the hell out of me.
