THIRTEEN Kalila woke up at four o’clock in the morning, parched and needing to relieve herself at the same time. Still half-asleep, she ambled slowly to the bathroom, did her business, and went back to bed. She poured herself a glass of water, drank it in one gulp, and laid back down against her pillows. Her eyelids flew open even before sleep could settle back in. Datu. She’d fallen asleep on his lap. That was as far as she remembered. Oh my god, did he carry me all the way here?
