THE LAST STAND

CHAPTER 2

Jaxon's pov

Most times I feel like grabbing Selena and strangling her, she's a crazy kid. How on earth am I following them both to have dinner when I could just go into the forest and get something to eat. They were both chit-chating about God knows what.

"Wow,how did you learn it" Selena asked her

"Oh my parents were healers,before they died"she paused "they were killed by wolves".

"Oh so sorry about that" Selena tried consoling

"Arrrrgh" I spoke out loud

"Are you okay?" the young lady asked

"Yes" I said without looking at her.

We walked through a meadow then we got to her house.

"Please make yourselves comfortable" she says as she walks to get something inside.

Her house was filled with herbs, potions and, wait are those animal skins. There was a bow and arrow hanging across the door, I guess she must be a hunter too, well I don't care am so hungry right now.

Hey, something happened when I tried to touch her back in the woods, that spark, seemed strange to me. Now everything here is beginning to irritate me.

She comes back in with two large bowls of water.

"Awwwn, thank you" Selena muttered as she collected the water

I wonder why she's acting all nice

"So sorry I never introduced myself, my name is Elowen" she said smiling pointing at herself.

I looked at her for a bit, I couldn't help but notice how beautiful she was when she smiled, she had this piercing green eyes with her long, dark hair falling perfectly on her shoulders.

I took my eyes off her immediately she looked back at me.

"I'm Selena and he is Jaxon" Selena introduced.

"Your brother?" Elowen asked immediately

Selena only smiled and looked at me with some weird look

"Jaxon" Elowen said smiling "thank you for saving me"

I only nodded back, with no emotions on my face.

"I should go make dinner now"she added and left.

"Wait I'd come with you" Selena rushed towards her looking at my disappointed face, she knew what was coming,but she found an escape already.

Elowen's pov

I kept stealing glances at Jaxon, i don't know how or when,but I feel I've seen his face somewhere before he looks so familiar, I just can figure it out.

Those eyes of his, they were beautiful.

He looks kinda proud, or maybe he is proud and grumpy, and I must say handsome.

He's very brave too, I wonder if he's from around this part, of which I hope he is.

"Is he always like that" I asked Selena who was busy admiring my home

"Haha, Jaxon?, I guess so"

"Where do you both live?" I asked her

"In the woods" she said putting some onions in her mouth

"Hahaha, you are really funny" I said but she looked serious. "Woods you say?, wait are you some kind of animal or what" I asked still laughing, this time she too was laughing

"Haha,not me" she said pointing to herself "Jaxon is the animal"

We talked for a while and in no time dinner was ready.

I made roasted Chicken and some porridge, we ate together. All through the meal Jaxon didn't say a word, he was very hungry I could see it in his eyes so he was caught between ravaging the meal or eating slowly like a silent character that he was.

As you guessed, he ate slowly and silently Selena on the other hand kept on talking and talking. I think I like her already, she's so jolly and in a loving way,sarcastic.

I asked if they wanted more, Jaxon was already rejecting the offer but Selena jumped on her feet

"Yes!yes! I want more of this delicious dish I just ate" she chuckled

I collected their dishes and gave them more. This time Jaxon was rushing his food, hahaha he's unbelievable, a moment ago he was about rejecting an extra dish.

Well I don't mean to boast but no one ever tastes my food and doesn't ask for more, apart from my gift as a healer I am a great chef.

"Thank you so much,we would be on our way" Selena said

"Once again am so grateful to you both for saving my life"

"Its nothing,Jaxon here is always willing to help at all time" she added while staring at him.

I noticed she was trying to tease Jaxon, in such a way a little sister would do to her elder brother in front of another lady.

"Alright then, mind if I see you off?"

"No need for that, let me give you two a moment" Selena said and walked out on us unexpectedly, we never saw that coming.

I could see the surprise on Jaxon's face, his legs became very unsteady.

"Hi" it just came out of my mouth seriously I had nothing to say,I was really dumbfounded. He was staring around, I couldn't tell if he was shy or was as speechless as I was.

"I should join her" he said pointing outside

"Yea you should" I said almost immediately, I was willing to do anything to get out of this awkward situation.

Immediately he left I ran to the window to watch them both, I saw him chasing Selena into the woods,he had a long stick on his hands.

I laughed so hard at the situation, Selena is really a character.

I walked towards my door to lock it,I discovered my bow and arrow wasn't where it supposed to be. Did I move it somewhere, I searched for it and couldn't find it, oh my God! No no no I can't believe this, does it mean. No it can't be, did I just get robbed by the same people who saved my life?

That arrow was the last thing father gave me before he died,infact it was the only thing he left me before being killed by wolves, mum couldn't bear the pain she took her own life. They were both healers, the best this kingdom ever had and I was taught everything concerning it. Now i'm the worthy legacy of this healing art.

I trusted them,why would they have done such a thing.

Selena wouldn't do such a thing,I suspect Jaxon, but how would he have taken it without me seeing him do so. I had my eyes on him all through. Oh right,they must be working together.

Its a big day tomorrow,I need to rest. There was something about Jaxon I just can't figure it out. I could swear I've seen him somewhere,or rather I know him but it seems my head is messing with me or I am messing my head up.

I prepared some potions for a neighbor who had trouble breathing, in no time I was done mixing it up and it will be ready for delivery by tomorrow's morning. I hope to see Jaxon soon,yea and Selena too. They stole from me,but somehow I still want them around. Should I attribute it to my lonely life, they had each other. I had no one.

I opened my drawer and took out a potion, I had to take this potion every night ever since I lost my parents. It helped me sleep well without having nightmares of me being a witch standing beside a wolf with a red stripe on its face. How much I hate wolves, I'm so glad they were all wiped out.

Selena's Pov

I was laughing and running as fast as I could, Jaxon was chasing me with a cane from behind. What I did to him at the young lady's place must have hit him quite well.

All through our stay there I could see the eye signals he was sending me for us to leave,but I totally ignored them,I had a lot of things I wanted to pick from her house before leaving.

"You can't catch me!" I yelled back at him

''Just wait till I get you" he paused "you will have a taste of this cane on your skin!"

I was very fast but Jaxon was faster, the only way I could escape him is if I could climb one of the tall trees here, I would have hide myself which would have been faster but Jaxon is a dog, he would smell me out.

I climbed as fast as I could. There was no way he would climb up here except in his wolf form.

"Get down here right now"he commanded with his both hands on his waist

"Get up here right now" I fired back standing the same way he stood, mimicking him.

It pissed him off the more, he knew I enjoyed doing this.

"Grrrrrrr, Selena!" He yelled

"Shhhhhh you'd wake the sleeping monkeys"

He started throwing sticks at me. Minutes later he was tired of it and started his way deep into the woods.

I watched him go a distance,then I climbed down and trailed him from behind.

Oh little puppy!! Don't cry, mama is coming for you!!. I sang as I followed him.

I had a beautiful voice, in fact the animals of the forest runs and hide in their homes when they hear me sing, so they would listen without any interruption hahaha, Jaxon would do anything to not hear me sing.

I brought out the arrow I took from the lady's place, I admired it, it was beautiful. I love it already. I can't let Jaxon see it, he's gonna have my head. I put it inside my backpack.

I had almost forgotten I was trailing Jaxon, woo! Where is he. I can't seem to find him. Damn! I started chasing after him.

We both stayed in a cave inside the woods, though I prefer sleeping in the tree house I built, but Jax prefers the cave.

He's been the only friend I've known for five years now. We've been through thick and thin together and am the only one who knows his secret. A werewolf.

I grew up in an orphanage,I hated it there, the food, the torture everything about there sucks. I found my escape during the great war between vampires,witches and werewolves.

Ever since then I learnt alot of things on survival, I learnt how to fight, to pick locks, I could steal anything I wanted.

Infact it was through stealing I met Jax, I picked his pockets while he was walking through the neighborhood, he chased me so hard like his life depended on it, he never caught me. But weeks later he caught me this time and I couldn't escape, today we have become best of friends. I still find it hard how I'm being able to understand a guy like Jax. Maybe it because we have commoness.

"Gotcha!!" a hand grabbed mine from behind, it was Jax. Seems he had outsmarted me.

"Oh please Jax am sorry" I pleaded pouting my lips

"Hahaha! There's no way that's gonna work on me" he says while bringing out the cane he had hid with his other hand.

"Jax please, it already late. Can we go to bed please"

"Oh you knew its late but you kept us at Elowen's place, right?"

"awwwwn, you remember her name"

He starts struggling to flog me.

"Jax, Jax" I called out like a whisper "Jax don't turn there is something behind you"

He then stopped, observed me for a while

"What is it" he asked slowly

"Shhhh,just turn around slo-wly"

He turned around slowly,the moment he did that I took off on my heels, I had tricked him again.

"Come back here Selena!!!!"
