“Your names are Hannah and Landon, right?” One of the girls said. I gave a nod, not really interested in conversation. Not to be rude, but I wasn’t looking to make new friends, I just wanted to get through the school year, and get out of there.
Landon just gave a slight wave not really caring much. Since New York, we haven’t looked for new friends or really interacted with people are age outside of our families. It was easier that way.
They started talking amongst themselves. Then they introduced themselves.
“I’m Amanda, this is David, Bradd, Allen, Amber, and Rebecca.” She said while pointing to each one of her friends.
I looked at them all closely, they were all similar features. Brown hair, brown eyes. The boys had somewhat defined jawlines, and the girls all had long hair. They didn’t seem too bad, but I wasn’t looking for friends.
I smiled again, and thankfully the teacher came in because Amber, I think it was, almost said something but stopped when the teacher began to speak.
Lunch couldn’t come faster. I wonder if everyone knew who we really were.
The next three classes were okay. I had a few classes with some David and Bradd, I learned. Other than that, it wasn’t bad. They tried to make conversation, but I kept my answers short, and to the point.
At lunch we all met up. Meaning Landon and I watch Moriah and Hayden, Matthew and Lizzy be all lovey dovey with each other.
“When are you two going to stop playing around and start going out?” Hayden asked me and Landon.
I blushed seeing as yes, I did like Landon, and I pretty sure he knew. We never really talked about it. I’m just glad things aren’t weird between us.
“Hey do y’all know them?” Matthew asked me and Landon, while looking above our heads.
“Hey guys mind if we sit here, no okay” Rebecca said as her and her friends sat down.
“Is it true?” David asked looking directly at me. I just raised my eyebrows at him, knowing what he was talking about, but wanting him to be a big boy ask himself.
“Mafia, are y’all in the Mafia?” Allen said when he realized David wasn’t going to ask me himself.
“Yes, why do you care?” Landon replied. I feel like Landon is jealous because David obviously likes me but is too scared to tell me now that he knows I’m mafia.
“Just wanted know, why are you so short compared to them” Allen said to me. I looked down at my legs. Yes, compared to my family I’m short by at least a foot. My dads are 7’2”, my moms are 6’5”, and my brothers are all over 6’6”. Then there’s me at 5’5”.
“Don’t know go ask a doctor” I said while I shrugged. I didn’t like to talk about my height because people always underestimated me and looked down on me for it.
“Do you not talk much or something, we haven’t been able to really hold a conversation with you” Amanda said with a kind of offensive tone. My brother was about to reply back, but I put my hand up to stop him.
“I do talk, but I don’t see a reason to talk to you. You ask to many questions for someone who just wants to get to know a person. My family nor personal life concerns you. Please keep asking the way your headed isn’t looking good.” I replied in an even tone.
That’s something that scares people. While some might have found that offensive and replied back with something fouler. I can keep an even tone when I pissed. Most can’t tell what I’m feeling from the way I talk or by my facial expressions.
“I like you” David finally said, after debating with himself for the last 10 minutes. I’m also extremely good at reading people. David’s statement caused Landon to abruptly get up and walk off.
Lizzy gave me a look that told me to go after him. I just shook my head and smiled.
“Sorry, I’m interested in someone else, and you’re not someone I would want to go out with either way.” I said to David while getting up and grabbing me and Landon’s stuff. I wasn’t trying to be rude I just wanted him to get it and not try anything funny.
“Hey, you forgot your stuff” I said to Landon once I saw him at my locker. He just nodded and took his backpack from my shoulder.
“What’s wrong” I tried again to get him to talk, but the look on his face told me I might not want to hear his response. Luckily, the bell went off just then.
“Never mind, we should get to class” I say turning on my heels and walking to class. I guess I know his feelings towards me now. Things are so gonna be awkward between us from here on out.
