Underestimated

Chapter 5

I could hear voices, but I could not make out what they were saying. My mind was awake, but it was like my body was still asleep. My side and shoulder hurt like hell.

“Hannah, princess come on wake up” I think it was dad, but I didn’t know. I slowly opened my eyes but immediately closed them when I saw the white light.

“What happened? f**k my side hurts” I groaned while slowly opening my eyes and trying to adjust to the harsh lights.

“Isiah, that motherfucker, was waiting outside your school and followed you to the park. He wasn’t trying to kill you, but apparently he was trying to send a message” Xavier said through clenched teeth.

I looked around the infirmary, because for obvious reasons we couldn’t go to the hospital.

“Hey guys, I’m ok, where is he now?” I asked looking directly at my uncle and father. That is when I realized something was off. “Where’s mom and Aunt Kimberlin?”

“Omg thank god, my baby is up” my mom said as she came into the room with a tray a food probably for my siblings. “I’m fine mom, how long have I been out”

“Only a couple hours, you little warrior” my uncle said has he pinched my check. I just smiled at him

“I’m going to kill the whole McKinley family” Hayden suddenly said. I looked directly at him. While my family saw the cold part of Hayden, I looked into is eyes and saw how worried he actually was. My family was close, but me and Hayden were connected at the hip, figuratively speaking. I could read him like the back of my hand, and vice versa.

“Damn my body hurts, how bad was the damage, and where is Isiah at?” I asked while sitting up. My mother and father gave me disapproving looks, but I just ignored them and looked between my brothers.

“He’s ran off, but we caught one his men who was there with him.” Braden said

“Alright I’m going up stairs to lay in my bed” I voiced walking out of the infirmary

“Like father like daughter” my mother said as she helped me walk to my room.

Once I finally reached my room. I saw my phone on the nightstand and called the first number I could think of.

“Hey baby, how are you feeling” Damn I do not think I’ll ever get used to hearing that.

“I’m sore but nothing to bad, lucky the bullet to my shoulder was a blank and the other only grazed my side.” I said to Landon. “Tell Lizzy and Moriah to stop worrying, I’m fine and I’ll be at school tomorrow.”

“That doesn’t mean that I don’t get to be scared Hannah, we all know this life you were lucky today.” Lizzy said all in one breath.

“There will only be a today, those fuckers won’t get close to my girl again”

“Wait your girl” Lizzy and Moriah said in unison. “We’re coming over right now, we obviously need to have a talk” Moriah said after their excitement settled down.

We talked for a few more minutes and agreed for them to come over in an hour. Just as I was hanging up a knock sounded at my door. “Come in” then all 7 of my older brothers came in.

“What’s going on with you and Landon?” Xander asked while taking a sit.

I smirked “He’s my boyfriend” I had the biggest grin on my face at this point.

“Finally,” they all chorused together. “What’s that supposed to mean” I question, not understanding why they all sounded relieved.

“You both have only been in love with each other for the last like 5 years, it was about time you two got together” Braxton said while all of my brothers nodded their heads in agreement.

Just as I was about to respond there was a knock at my door. “Can we come in?” Moriah asked as she poked her head in the door. “Yea, I wasn’t expecting you guys for another like 45 minutes.” I responded as Lizzy and Moriah walked in.

“Landon is downstairs talking to your uncle and dad” I groaned because I know they were going to try and intimidate him even though they approved and had known the boy is whole life.

“Well will leave you to it, come by my room before you leave” Coby said to us as he got all my brothers to leave us alone for some much-needed girl time. Lizzy and Coby are playing this marathon game right now and it pretty intense. We all enjoy watching them scream at the TV.

“So, you and my brother” Lizzy said once all the boys were out of the room. We all got up headed to the lower level of my room that was a living room inside my room.

“Yes, me and your brother, do you have a problem with that?” I asked with raised eyebrows. It should not be a problem, but I wanted to see how she would react.

“Of course not, but if he breaks your heart, I’m going to have to kill him” she said with a smile on her face. I had no doubt in mind that she would, but I do not think he would break my heart.

“I’m glad y’all are together.” Moriah smiled. We’ve all been friends for years. There honestly like my sisters, since I have none.

“Those guys at lunch today were weird” Lizzy commented after a moment of silence.

“I think David has something about him. He doesn’t give me bad mafia vibes, but I feel like he knows more about us then he’s leading on.” Moriah said. I nodded my head in agreement.

“Let’s watch some Criminal Minds. I’m over the mafia talk today” I said reaching for the remote.
