Chapter5

Five days later. Veric opened his eyes. He looked around the wooden house, wondering if he was still alive. He didn't expect to survive after falling from the forbidden ravine. "You're awake?" An old man walked over to Veric and sat down beside him. "It turns out I'm not dead after all," Veric muttered. The old man laughed at Veric's words. "You were only in a coma for five days. I took care of you." "But how could I have survived? That ravine is forbidden," said Veric with a look of surprise on his face. "It means you've been given another chance at life. Be grateful." The man then gave Veric a potion to drink. "Drink the potion I made, you will definitely recover completely," he said. "Thank you," replied Veric. Veric tried to sit up, and the old man helped him. Then Veric drank the potion given to him by the old man. "Do you live here? Thank you for saving my life," said Veric. "Yes. I am the guardian of this ravine. I have lived here for quite some time," he replied. "I didn't think I would survive after jumping from that ravine. I know this forbidden ravine can kill wizards. Any wizard who falls from that ravine will surely not survive," said Veric. "There is no magic in your body, so you can still live," he said. "But isn't my blood still from the witch clan?" said Veric with a confused look. "You will find out everything if you try to find out. The reason why you survived?" he replied with a smile. "Please, can I be your student? I want to be strong and have magic," said Veric with a pleading look. "You must know I am not a wizard," said the old man. "You were even able to heal me and save my life. I'm sure you're not just anyone," said Veric. "I don't care if you're not a wizard," he continued. "If you want to be my student, it won't be easy. You have to pass five challenges I set for you," he said, looking at Veric. "What kind of challenges?" asked Veric. "I'll introduce myself first. My name is Xiof. You can call me whatever you want," said Xiof, introducing himself. "I'll call you Master!" said Veric enthusiastically. "The challenges I will give you are not easy. If you have any doubts, you'd better leave," said Xiof. "No! I have no doubts. I will try my best," said Veric. "I have been allowed to live, so I must rise up. I am sure Master Xiof can help me become strong, and I can avenge my revenge," said Veric to himself. "Wait a minute, I'll get something for you. Consider it my first challenge for you," said Xiof, then left Veric. "I have to be enthusiastic! And I'm sure I can do this challenge. I will prove to them that I can also become strong," said Veric enthusiastically. Not long after, Xiof returned with a very thick book. "Study everything in this book. I'll give you three months," said Xiof as he handed him the book. Veric accepted the book. It was very thick and heavy. Veric was sure this was no ordinary book. "If you want to give up, tell me immediately. Because this book is not just any book, only a few people understand the language," said Xiof. "No. I will not give up. I will have learned everything in three months," replied Veric firmly. "All right. Please begin studying," said Xiof. Veric opened the first page and was quite surprised to find that the book was written in an ancient language. "Luckily, I learned this language from my grandfather," Veric thought. "This young man has extraordinary enthusiasm," Xiof thought to himself. Xiof then left Veric, allowing him to study the book in peace. Veric continued reading the book until late at night. "Take a break first, and eat. I've made some food for you," said Xiof. "Thank you, Master. I'm sorry, I've caused you trouble. I lost track of time," replied Veric. "I know you have extraordinary enthusiasm and want to become strong quickly. But if you only focus on that, you will surely fail. You have to think about what you need to," Xiof warned. "Thank you, Master. I won't forget your advice, and I won't repeat the same mistake again," said Veric. "Good! Now let's have dinner first," said Xiof. They then went to have dinner together. After dinner, Veric wanted to continue reading the book. "Don't stay up too late, take care of your health. Even though I'm giving you a short time, you must still take good care of your health," Xiof warned. "Yes, Master. I promise I will take good care of my health," replied Veric. Veric then went into his room, returning to reading and studying the book thoroughly. The book was not only about magic, but also about other powers that were far more interesting, as well as ways to make poisons and their antidotes. "I swear to myself that I can become strong. And I will make Blow and Agezza regret it," said Veric with a sharp gaze. "Because of them, all the wizard clans hate me, even my own parents," he continued. Veric then closed the book. It was already late at night, and he had to rest. "I'll continue tomorrow," said Veric, placing the book in the drawer beside his bed. The next day. Veric helped Xiof look for firewood in the forest. They still cooked using firewood. "Master Xiof said there must be wild animals in this forest, so I have to be careful," said Veric as he gathered firewood. Suddenly, Veric heard the sound of a tiger. "I must not be afraid, I have to fight it. If I'm afraid, it's useless for me to stay up late every night to study that book," said Veric. The tiger was already in front of Veric, staring at him with hungry eyes. As the tiger prepared to attack Veric, Veric threw a needle at it, and the tiger died instantly. "I finally did it. Even though I don't have magical abilities yet, I can already make a poison to protect myself," said Veric with a happy expression.
