Anthony’s POV “So because my father killed, his vengeance is turned toward me?” I snickered as I shoved my hands in my pant pockets. “Not really my problem. I can handle myself.” “It’s not you we’re concerned about. It’s Lyla. Nick and his family vowed to destroy any happiness the Cross’s came into. For instance, your mother paid the price.” I growled as I appeared in front of her within seconds, I could see her eyes grow big as she was taken aback.  “Why the f**k would a werewolf have anything to do with my mother?” My question wasn’t intended to be calm. I could see out of the corner of my eye Michael’s eyes turn from brown to gold. “Relax. I have no intention of hurting the she wolf, after all she is the one who has been protecting my beloved.” I shot a corner smile at Emma. But it wasn’t Emma who responded back. It was Regina “Because our father was in lust with his grandmother.” I turned towards Regina, bewildered by what she had just said. “What?” I was utterly confused.  “But because he couldn’t have her, he ripped her heart. Because he believed that if he couldn’t have her heart, then nobody would.” Regina continued in disgust. “But she didn’t love him, she was merely helping him get information on a trail of a witch that led to the portal opening. Which we now know is Lyla.” Regina said as she sighed and rubbed her head in annoyance. “Where exactly is father?” I asked, we haven’t seen nor spoken to him since the day mother went into the portal. We both blamed him for what happened. “Canada.” Regina said as she walked past me. “We better go find Lyla, for all we know this Nick guy could know she’s your mate and could be after her.”  “I’ll find her.” With that being said, I was gone. I headed towards the sidewalk where I could see Lyla walking on the field, she was looking at her phone. I saw her trip and within seconds I was behind her. I grabbed her right hand and pulled her into me, I just wanted to hold her.  I could feel her muscles tense as I asked her if she was always this clumsy. She pushed away from me and I could tell she was upset with me. I was lost for words to say to her, I just stared at her. She turned to walk away from me, I reached for her hand to stay telling her to wait. She looked at me questionably. I looked down at her hand and all that came to my mind was to ask about her hand. This made her mad, but she was cute when she was mad. This wasn’t the right time to think about that. She cornered me with her question, about what my deal was. She asked me why I kissed her, I couldn’t tell her I did it because she is my mate, that I love her. I can’t just lay it all out, it would scare her, I needed to introduce things slowly. “It was a mistake.” The moment those words left my lips, I felt a pain in my chest. I knew those words hurt her. But she had her way of hurting me back, she told me to stay away from her. Those words shot through me like a knife penetrating my heart. She walked away from me, I stood there paralyzed, dying inside. I wanted to grab her and kiss her, hold her close to me. An announcement over the speaker told everyone to go back inside. I walked along the crowd, pondering about what had just happened. I was doing this all wrong, I should have done things differently.  “Where’s Lyla?” Emma’s concerned voice brought me out of my thoughts. She grabbed my arm and turned me around to face her. Worry was written across her face.  Before I could answer her question, a scream erupted from the parking lot. No human ear would have been able to hear it, but with enhanced hearing I did. It was Lyla. I pushed Emma off as I ran to the parking lot, I was there within seconds but not fast enough. I saw a male figure pull Lyla out of her car and throw her to the ground, causing her to hit her head. I rushed to Lyla’s side, kneeling beside her to check her. She was still breathing, but I could smell blood. This bastard injured her. I was going to kill him. I gathered my senses together as I stood up to face the asshole who did this. I turned around to see this tall, slender built figure with green glowing eyes. He was an Alpha. I’ve gone up against many alphas, this one was no different. All I saw was red. He lunged forward, baring a claw headed towards my face. One scratch from a werewolf would lead to a long, painful death. I dodged the attack by diving down to grab him by his waist and shove him to the ground. I managed to quickly stand up and kick him in the stomach. He growled at me and jumped to his feet lunging at me again. He pinned me to the ground, I raised my arm in defense to keep him from biting me, but he was choking me.  I kicked him off me, causing him to fly towards the side of the car.  I got up, and after several minutes of attempting to get past this wolf’s defenses, I strolled to him and punched him in his jaw. I lost my temper and began to batter at him as if to pound him into the ground. I could hear the cracking of bones as he groaned in pain.  “Why did you attack her!? Who are you!?” I sneered, every muscle in my body wanted to rip his throat out. Before I could, two pairs of hands grabbed me, pulling me off the bastard.  “He doesn’t deserve to live for what he’s done.” I snarled at Regina who was caressing Lyla’s head in her lap. I shoved Emma and Michael off, they walked over to the man laying on the ground unconscious.  “You did a really big number on him. And he’s an Alpha.” Michael said appealingly. A smile escaped my mouth, I quickly hid it away. “I don’t give a damn what he is. Is that this Nicolas wolf?” I asked, I began dusting the dirt off my jeans and jacket. “Yeah. We should take him back to the barn. But we better do it quickly before his pack smells the blood.” Emma said kneeling down beside him, she stood up and walked over to where Lyla was laying. “We need to take her to the hospital. She might have a concussion. We’ll just say somebody tried to rob her in the parking lot.” I walked over to Lyla and kneeled to pick her up, she moaned as I raised her from the ground bringing her closer to my chest. She squinted her eyes at me in confusion mumbling, “What happened?” “Nothing my love, everything is okay. I got you.” I said reassuring her. To my surprise, she smiled and nuzzled herself deeper into me. She held onto my shirt as I walked to my car across the lot.  “I’ll take her to the hospital. You guys take care of him.” I said, turning my attention to Regina. She nodded her head and began helping Emma and Michael shove Nicolas into the trunk of Lyla’s car. “I’ll deal with him later.” I muttered to myself. Nobody harms my girl and lives.
