CH 2 Clumsy

1486 Words
Lyla POV Oh god. Clumsy me bumped right into someone with my drink, I didn’t notice him but it felt like I had walked into a wall. My eyes were glued to my phone about the disappearance of a young girl named Samantha. I dropped my bags as I kept apologizing while I attempted to clean the mess I made all over the floor and his white shirt and leather jacket. I didn’t even look up as I started to apologize, I was too embarrassed, part of me was afraid it was a teacher.  "You don't have to apologize," I looked up, still apologizing, and he was just smiling at me. I couldn’t help but stare, his smile was sending butterflies to my stomach for some reason. He reached for my hand to help me up, "it's not your fault, accidents happen all the time." "True, but they can be avoided." I said as I attempted to get up with my bag. It was strange, the moments when our hands touched I felt this tingling sensation rush from hand to my heart. I must be daydreaming or something. He has these gorgeous brown eyes that seem to make all my worries fade away just by staring into them. "Some accidents shouldn't be avoided", he said, smiling as he helped me stand, but then he looked down at his phone and piece of paper and sighed. For a brief second I thought I had spilled the coffee on his phone. "Oh no, did I spill coffee on your phone!?" "What? Oh, no. My phone is fine. My schedule on the other hand is a goner." he sounded confused, then  groaned in what sounded like annoyance. I couldn't help but notice that he was extremely handsome. The way the structure of his jaw bone I found to be sexy, not to mention his skin tone and his voice. I was so distracted, I dropped my bag again.  “I’ve never seen you before, are you new?” I tried to wing it as I dropped my bag again, he smiled a crooked smile at me and I swear it made me want to kiss him. Wait, what. Am I actually thinking this? I don't even know his name.  “I’m Anthony, I just transferred back. And you?” It’s like he read my mind. “I’m Lyla.” Anthony. Even his name was perfect. What the hell was going on in my head.  “Hi.” A gentle voice broke the silence between Anthony and me. I looked behind him to see this petite girl, same height as me, beautiful eyes. She walked over to me and extended her hand to me. Is this his girlfriend? Of course he has a girlfriend. “I’m Regina, my dear big brother here is rude and seems to have forgotten his manners.” she smiled as she shoved passed Anthony. His sister, she sort of looks familiar to me, but I’m not sure where I’ve seen her.  “I’m the Cheer captain.” Ah there it is. Cheer. “You’re on the cross country team right? I’m sure I’ve seen you around, I can’t believe we’ve never actually met and talked.” “I keep to myself usually.” I said as I looked at my phone, s**t I was going to be late to 1st period. “I would love to continue talking to you guys, but I really need to go!” I hurried away, I could feel eyes on me, his eyes. He was staring at me the entire time his sister was talking to me. I started to bite my lip, I’ve never felt this feeling before, maybe it’s because I’ve never actually been with someone. I didn’t have time to worry about that, for some reason I couldn’t get him out of my mind. I walked into 1st period, English with Mrs. Sandra. I saw Emma sitting in the back, she saved me a seat next to her. She’s been my best friend since middle school, the first day we just clicked. She was there for me when my parents disappeared, she kept my mind distracted. I walked towards her, she looked up from her phone and smiled her cheesy smile. “I texted you like fifty times,  did you get lost?” you could hear the sarcasm in her voice.  “Ha ha, funny. I spilled my drink on some guy.” I groaned as I placed my bag on the floor and sat down.  “Ah, so you did get lost.” she started giggling. “So who is he? Was he cute? Do we know him?” “Emma!” I blurted, laughing. She’s been pushing me to talk to a guy for the longest, talk about peer pressure. “It was nothing,” I felt I was blushing so I looked down, grabbed a notebook and a pen.  “Oh. My. God. You’re blushing!” I could hear the excitement in her voice now, she wasn’t going to let this go. I looked over at her and just smiled, I wanted to change the conversation. “How’s your dad?” It was just Emma and her dad, her mom passed away a year before high school started, she wouldn’t tell me how, she just told me it was too painful to talk about. I never tried to push her because I understand how she felt. We both had started cross country our freshman year, she was faster and had a lot more stamina than me. “I see what you’re doing, you can’t avoid my question forever and certainly can’t avoid him.” She made an annoyed face and snickered at me. “Dad is good though, he fixed the cadillac, so I will sood have a car to drive. No more running to school.” She sounded so happy, the car belonged to her mom, she said her dad working on it made him feel close to her. “How exciting! I still can’t believe you run 8 miles here everyday fast and don’t look tired. I envy you.” we both started to laugh.  “You two are like two peas in a pod.” we turned around, recognizing the voice. Michael, Emma’s cousin. He sat down in front of me eating an apple, I swear there isn’t a time he’s not eating something. “Do you have like a tapeworm or something?” I joked. “s**t, I’m a grown ass man, I need to eat.” he smirked at me, then took another bite of his apple. He began smacking his lips as he ate. Emma threw a pen at him, but amazingly he caught it. “Must you always be so annoying.” she said in a disgusted voice. I don’t know how they grew up with each other, always bickering at each other. Mrs. Sandra walked in the room, she was carrying a black binder and a purple coffee cup. She placed everything on her desk, cleared her throat and started welcoming us back to class, our junior year. “I hope everybody had a great summer and are ready to get back to work.” she glared at us. “Let’s get right to it and start with chapter one.” I grabbed my textbook and opened my notebook, I wrote today’s date. Mrs. Sandra began talking about the papers we would be writing this semester and the due dates. I started writing down all the information. She paused as the classroom door opened. “Yes? Who are you?” she began, i could hear her heels clacking on the floor. “I’m a bit lost, but I think this is the right room.” that voice. I know that voice, I paused in my writing and as I looked up, he was looking right at me. “Okay, hun you can sit right back there next to Ms. Jones.” she pointed right at me. Oh god.  Emma pinched me, I turned and glared at her but she just smiled and whispered, “That’s him isn’t it.” I turned back towards him, but he was already sitting down next to me.  “Hi, Ms. Jones.” Oh my god, why did his voice have to sound so deep and that smile. What the f**k is wrong with  me today.
