Lyla’s POV
He looked away, then stood up saying he would be right back. I finished filling out the papers and returned them to the nurse who took me to a room within a few minutes. She took me to this small room with a window facing the parking lot, there were a couple of chairs and of course the hospital bed. The nurse, Nancy, asked me to go ahead and change into the gown seeing as they wanted me to stay overnight.
I changed my clothes, I thought about calling my Aunt but I was pretty sure the nurses already did that since I’m underage still. I was putting my clothes in the bag they gave, I turned around to see Antony standing by the door with his hands in his pockets.
“Enjoying the view are we?” I shot at him like he did earlier.
“Ouch, shots fired back I see.” He chuckled grasping his heart, he walked over to sit by me.
“You didn’t have to stay, I’m sure you have other things to do.” Part of me wanted him to say he was there for me. I looked away, feeling a roll of emotions toward him all of a sudden.
“I want to, besides I got nothing else to do.” He said, plopping himself on the bed to lay down.
“You do realize that this bed is actually intended for me right?” I giggled as he closed his eyes smiling. A knock came on the door as the nurse, Nancy walked inside.
“Young man, that isn’t for you.” She scolded Anthony and I started to laugh.
Anthony stood up, he walked over to sit in the chair by the window, his eyes never leaving mine though. I snickered at him, trying really hard to avoid smiling.
“Miss, can you tell me what happened?” Nancy asked as she began her exam on me. I explained to her what happened, but left some minor details out.
“Well you are quite lucky your handsome boyfriend was there to bring you here.” She smiled, writing notes on her clipboard.
“Wait what? No— no he’s— he’s not my boyfriend.” I stuttered out, I could feel myself blushing and butterflies starting up. I looked over at Anthony who was just smiling, I shook my head and he started laughing.
“Common mistake. But I thank you for the compliment.” He smiled at Nancy who smiled back as she was walking out the door.
“The nurses have already called your Aunt and Uncle, they should be here soon.” Nancy said, closing the door behind her.
I looked back at Anthony. “Really?” was all I managed to get out before my aunt and uncle walked in the door. s**t.
Anthony’s POV
The air in the room changed as Lyla’s Aunt and Uncle walked in. That aura, it was familiar but I couldn’t seem to put my finger on it.
“Oh my god Lyla, are you okay?” Her aunt rushed to her, indulging her in a tight hug. Lyla hugged her back, telling her she is fine.
“How exactly did you get here?” Her aunt asked her, wiping away a tear streaming down her face.
“Uh, Anthony brought me here.” All their eyes focused on me. I was looking at Lyla’s Aunt, her facial features looking quite familiar, she walked toward me and I couldn’t get a reading from her.
“Anthony, this is my Aunt Rene and Uncle Christian.” Lyla said with a smug look.
“Thank you.” Rene said, extending her hand to me. I took it, smiling, when our hands met it felt like electricity was running through my veins. I looked in her eyes, that look I’ve seen before. She was reading me, which means she’s the familiar aura, but I still don't know how I know. She let go, her eyes never looking away.
“I appreciate you very much for being there for my niece and bringing her here. Can I buy you a coffee?” she offered, gesturing towards the door. I nodded in agreement, then proceeded walking out with Lyla’s Aunt and Uncle.
As we walked out the door, I could still feel Rene’s eyes burning through the back of my skull. We got close to the waiting room, where there was a coffee maker. Being a vampire hasn’t really changed my diet, there are two types of vampires, trueblood and transition. A trueblood can only survive off human blood, but with it they gain abilities. A transition is able to survive off human blood along with human diet. But we require a daylight ring, there are a few of us transitions that have acquired abilities.
I’m one of the few who has acquired an ability, which I try to keep under the radar is Pyrokinesis, I’m able to control and summon fire with my mind. Only three people know of my ability, one of those beings is my father, who learned the hard way of it when I burned his tattoo off his arm.
“When did you get here?” A low gentle voice brought my mind from the past. I turned around to see Rene staring blankly at me, Christian walked to stand beside her, wrapping his arm around her waist.
“Two days ago, I returned on family matters,” but before I could finish my sentence Rene cut me off.
“I know who you are, you saved my sister once.” I stared at her in confusion, I’m sure I would have remembered saving a witch’s life. She could sense I didn’t remember, because she walked towards me putting her hands on both sides of my temples and a flashback began.
Memories….
