Chapter 1

"You need to back off of my business Ms. Vadar and it's not a warning it's an order." She barks. "You keep missing out the fact that I will never ever leave MY business because a weak and jealous person can't handle the competition." Angelina replied, walking towards her slowly. The office door behind her swung open soundlessly. Her efficient, ever-loyal assistant, Sophia Reece, stepped in. "Ms. Vadar, Mr. Talford is here." "Well, Ms. Bale, your unpleasant visit has reached an end. Please, let yourself out with the door." Angelina replied, still grinning sarcastically. “This isn't over," Christiana muttered as she walked out of the mansion, flashing Mr. Talford a saucy smile. Angelina turned, her sharp blue eyes meeting Sophia's. "Thank God, send him in." Sophia nodded and disappeared, replaced moments later by a tall, imposing figure. Dylan Talford exuded an air of quiet confidence, his dark eyes assessing the room before coming to rest on Elena. He moved with the grace of a predator, each step deliberate and controlled. "Ms. Vadar," he greeted, his voice a deep, resonant baritone. "Mr. Talford," Elena returned, her tone cool as she gestured for him to be seated. She observed him drop down into the chair facing her desk, the minute tautness in his body. Handsome didn't do the word justice; chiseled was more like it—with that jaw, those eyes seeming to see right through her. She'd studied his file, naturally—former military, an exemplary record in private security. But there was something about him…. "I've gone through your resume," she started, tapping a perfectly manicured nail on the surface of her desk. "Impressive. Though the job requires more than just physical protection. It means being discreet, loyal, and being able to wade through the twists of my world. Can you do that?" Dylan met her gaze square on. "I can handle whatever you want, Ms. Vadar." He was confident to the point of arrogance, and Angelina found that both irritating and intriguing. "We'll see," she said shortly. "Sophia will fill you in with all the details. Your duties start immediately." Dylan nodded and rose to his feet to leave. He was almost out the door when Angelina called after him. "And Mr. Talford, I don't tolerate failure." He turned, looking back over his shoulder, and gave her the faintest, most enigmatic of smiles. "Neither do I." He nodded and turned to leave; the door closed behind him. Elena gave way to a tiny sigh. She didn't have time for distractions, and certainly not for those as compelling as Dylan Talford. There were more urgent things she had to be concerned with—namely, the danger presented by Christiana Bale. "Christiana… she has been a thorn in my side for years. Always there, always plotting. She's not just a rival—she's got a grudge, and the resources to be a real threat. And now she's getting bolder, more aggressive. Her intentions, crystal clear. She wants to tear Vadar Enterprises apart, piece by piece. I can't let that happen. I *won't* let that happen." Elena said in her head. Sophia came back into the room, breaking Elena's reverie. "All square with Mr. Talford?" "For the moment," Angelina answered. "Keep watching him. I don't want any surprises." Sophia inclined her head. Her face was impassive. "Got it." Angelina turned her attention to the pile of papers on her desk, her mind already shifting to the upcoming showdown. In her world, there was no room for weakness or mistakes. She had worked too hard and too long to give up any ground to someone else. Dylan Talford stepped out of the elevator into the small office of Vadar Enterprises trying to take in everything he saw. Angelina Vadar lived up to her tough reputation. She was beautiful, sure, but she had a steely resolve that said, "Don't mess with me." He walked to the security center where a group of specialists watched over the whole building. Sophia was there waiting for him looking professional but also a bit curious. "Come with me," she said leading him to a secure room filled with screens and high-tech equipment. "You'll run things with the team from here. You can go anywhere in the building, but Ms. Vadar values her privacy. Remember that." Dylan nodded. "Got it." Sophia gave him a tablet. "This has your schedule and main points to remember. Ms. Vadar is sitting down with several big-name clients tonight. You need to make sure everything runs like clockwork." “No problemo.” Dylan replied with a sneaky smile. As she talked, Dylan glanced at one of the screens. It displayed the main entrance where a crowd of dressed people gathered. He spotted Christiana Bale among them. She looked gorgeous, with a frosty allure that matched her reputation. Her appearance here unexpected and unwelcome, was a clear challenge. "Should she be here?" Dylan inquired gesturing toward the monitor. Sophia's face grew serious. "No, she shouldn't. I'll inform Ms. Vadar." Before Sophia could act, the image on the screen changed . Christiana walked up to the front desk talking to the guard. Moments later, the guard fell down, and the lobby descended into mayhem. Dylan's gut feeling took over. "Stay put and secure the room. I'll deal with this." Without waiting for an answer, he ran quickly to the elevator, his thoughts moving fast. Whatever Christiana Bale had planned, it was beginning now. He needed to get to Angelina before it was too late. The elevator doors opened to the noisy confusion of the lobby. People were yelling, security guards were rushing around, and in the middle of it all, Christiana stood quietly, a pleased smile on her face. She looked directly at Dylan, and for a moment, everything seemed to stop. “Vadar,” she called out in a teasing way. “I hope you didn’t miss me too much, dear.” Not paying attention to her jokes, Dylan looked around for danger. His main concern was Angelina’s safety. He saw her coming down the big staircase, her face showing anger. Their eyes met, and he noticed the moment she understood. “Dylan!” Angelina shouted above the noise. “Go to my office. Now!” He agreed with a nod, but as he tried to obey her instruction, a loud explosion shook the building. The power of the blast knocked him to the ground, and everything turned black. Angelina managed to stand up among the rubble, her ears still ringing from the explosion. She looked around, feeling anxious as she tried to find Dylan. The lobby was destroyed, with smoke and dust everywhere. Security alarms were loud, and the frightened cries of guests filled the air. Then she spotted him, lying still near the doorway. Her heart skipped a beat, a mix of worry and frustration pushing her to move closer. She got to his side and shook him. “Dylan, wake up! We have to go!” His eyes slowly opened, and he let out a groan as he tried to sit up. “Angelina… are you alright?” Before she could respond, a dark figure appeared above them. Christiana Bale was there, holding a g*n and looking very pleased with herself. “This is only the start, Angelina,” Christiana said in a harsh tone. “Your powerful business is falling apart, and you can't do anything to prevent it.” Elena's eyes showed strong resistance, but before she could act, Vivian fired the g*n. The loud gunshot filled the lobby, and Elena's vision went dark.
