Chapter 7

“I have to go but I’ll call you,” I said to my mother as I cut the call. After a two hour call with my mom, there was absolutely no way out of my marriage with Jayden which pissed me off. There was no way out of this so the least I could do was fulfill Jayden’s threat to me for him except it would be vice versa, I was going to make his life so dreadful and depressing, he would wish to be in hell. It was Vanessa’s birthday and I was ready to go but I couldn’t find my watch. I had lots of watches but I really wanted to wear the gold one with my black floral dress. I noticed the envelope I had put away in my clothes and I opened it quickly while checking the time on my phone. I was going to be late if I delayed more. As I opened it read, Dear Lola I would advise you to stay the hell away from Vanessa’s death because it wasn’t your parents who got rid of her the first time. They are some other people that you don’t even suspect but I have to warn you that they are dangerous. If you want her to live, go to the party and after that leave without ever coming back because if you do Vanessa will die, for real this time. Oh and go with your husband, you might need him, he knows more than you do… P.s Watch your back and trust no one because nothing is as it seems… Xoxo A friend I managed to steady my breathing even though it was very hard. I reread the letter a hundred times and tried to process everything that it said. Texting Jayden to meet me at the party, I put the letter in my clutch and hurriedly left the house while checking to see if anyone was in. My life was a serious mess and I had no idea how I would get out of it. Placing one foot in front of the other I didn’t realize I had walked to the party venue which was just outside the castle and all eyes were on me. The place was decorated with balloons and there were kids playing around with cake and well other birthday party stuff. There was also a table filled with gifts and it was then I realized I didn’t have a gift but surely Jayden would find something right? Knowing Jayden he probably wasn't smart enough to bring a gift but I'd have to give him the benefit of the doubt. Deciding not to ruin Vanessa’s day I smiled and walked over to where the adults were standing looking at their kids playing joyfully. “Hie,” I timidly greeted and they all smiled except one woman. “It’s an honor to finally meet the famous Lola Henstridge,” the woman who didn’t smile greeted with a not so friendly smile. “The pleasure is all mine,” I responded and I was glad when Jayden walked over to us and the woman’s unfriendly act vanished like that. Instead of being the unfriendly person she was being earlier, she was acting nice, a little flirty if you ask me. It didn’t bother me, it just amused me. “Mr. Henstridge, welcome to my daughter’s birthday party,” she said in a sweet voice which made me roll my eyes. That b***h was that sweet girl’s mother, I mean how screwed up is that? “Thank you,” Jayden replied with a toothy grin while holding my waist. As soon as he touched my waist I felt sparks of electricity which I decided to ignore because it might have been static electricity for all I know. “Lola can I talk to you?” he asked leading me away from the group of adults and I nodded surprised he could say as many words and he wasn’t pissed with me. “What’s up?” I asked when we were at a considerable distance. “The letter you got, where did you put it?” he questioned in a hurry and I replied ‘in my purse’ while he ran his hands through his hair. “After the party we’re leaving,” he mumbled with a stressed expression and I raised an eyebrow for him to explain why we were leaving suddenly. “I can’t say but if we don’t leave a lot of people are going to get hurt and that includes your infidelity partner,” he whispered even though the anger in his voice didn’t make it sound like a whisper. “Infidelity partner huh?” I questioned and he rolled his eyes showing he was annoyed. “Yes, I can’t believe you cheated on me with my best friend Lola I mean how screwed up are you?” he yelled and I shushed him so that we wouldn’t draw any attention to us. A few parents turned their heads to us but Jayden covered by kissing my forehead while I secretly smirked. It obviously bothered him if he mentioned it. “We’re married and yes it’s an arranged marriage but that doesn’t mean you own me because you don’t. You can’t just boss me around and expect me to be fine with it because I’m not. I am also human and I feel, the way you treat me along with your family tells me that you don’t think I feel,” I said with a stern voice and for a moment Jay looked taken aback but I so far from done. “You slept with a thousand girls after we got married and I didn’t ask you about it. You got our maid pregnant and again I didn’t question you, all I did was run away from it all. I came here and you followed just so that you continue making me miserable. Your mother insults me and your aunt too but I have never told you to yell at them for me, have I? I am tired of being your little puppy Jay so our marriage is going to have a few changes. Firstly I never want to see you unless I have to and I want to never talk to anyone in your family unless it’s your funeral. I will inform you of any other changes.” Jayden scoffed and laughed before whispering ‘deal’ in my ear his breath fanning my ear as he spoke. I felt goose bumps all over and before I knew it Jayden was leading me back to the party with a huge smile and I smiled too knowing we had to pull off whatever it was we had. It was present giving time and Jayden looked at me with the do you have a gift look and I shook my head no. I knew he wasn't smart enough to bring a gift. “Lola, it’s time for your gift,” Vanessa’s mother called and I smiled before walking to the gift table. “As it is your eighth birthday and you invited my wife to your party and I tagged along too we have decided to give you part of the castle,” Jayden said with a smile and I smiled too while nodding. I was mad he had just given away my property like that but at least he was giving it to Vanessa, even though she wasn’t my daughter I felt like she was. I watched Vanessa squealing and jumping up and down while her mother gave me a smile. She would probably enjoy all the profits until Vanessa was older but what mattered was the shares would be in her name. “Thanks so much Lola,” she squeaked giving me a big hug and I laughed while hugging her back. “You guys are so much alike you could pass off as sisters,” one of the adult women commented and everyone nodded and agreed while I shook my head no with a laugh. The rest of the day was spent laughing and enjoying each other’s company until Jay decided to drag me home. As I was saying bye to everyone I was topped by Vanessa’s mother whose name I learnt was Georgina. “I know you are her mother,” she began and my face became confused but she chose to ignore it. “I promise I’ll tell her on her sixteenth birthday that I’m her adopted mother but her life might be in danger if we tell her now. As a mother I know what I’m about to ask of you is hard but don’t try to make contact or find her until the time is right because you’ll risk her chance of living.” I didn’t know what to say to that so I just nodded and hugged her before leaving with Jayden. Not knowing what had just happened I decided I had to get in contact with a detective even though I had been warned not to. It was worth it. Also with everything that was going on I considered getting a shrink because why not? It would probably annoy Jayden to bits.
