Chapter 17: Waking Up Confused

2743 Words
Raelynn’s POV Everyone, including my brother and best friend, was staring at me like I was crazy. The man had shock and hurt in his eyes and I wanted to wipe away the hurt. “I’m sorry.” I said, feeling my cheeks heat up, “But I don’t know who you are.” I felt like my heart hurt but it wasn’t a physical pain but a more emotional one. I saw the man’s eyes turn sad, “I-I’m Callan. Your mate.” Callan. That’s a nice name. You would think I’d remember a guy like him. I tried really hard to remember him but it just made my head hurt so I turned to the mate part. “How can I have a mate? I’m not even eighteen yet.” I said. This Callan guy, Maya, and Owen looked at each other before Maya spoke, “Um, sweety you turned eighteen four days ago. Do you not remember?” I blinked and shook my head. Pain shot through my head and I clutched it. “Let me go through my questions again.” Dr. Cullen said. She went through the date. Apparently, it was like five or six days later than I thought. Got the year. I remember the pain and the tree but nothing else. Got my full name, parents, and siblings down. She asked me about my pain and I said so far it’s just in my head since Callan was still touching me. She asked me about Xavier and Alex, yep remembered them. When she asked me about the mating trip that the Alpha King put on I was drawing a blank. Apparently, Maya was mated to the future Alpha King, William, and the next day I’d found Callan who was William’s best friend. When the doctor asked me about my wolf, now there, I had a hard time answering. “I can’t talk to her. She’s not responding to me. Charity has never been radio silent for long. I’m worried.” “Don’t worry.” The Doctor said, “I’m sure that it was a shock for her too so I’m betting that she’s resting up and in a few days she’ll come back as well.” “Speaking of a few days,” Maya said slowly “Can we take her back with us?” Back? Back where? “You’ll probably want to keep her for observation right?” Owen asked. I noticed that the girl on his lap was gazing at him in adoration. She had one of her arms around his shoulders and was playing with the hairs on the back of his neck. Interestingly, he seemed to like it. “I would but I’ve done all the tests I could and she’s perfectly healthy.” I was really happy at that. That all I had to worry about was the fact I’d lost a few days. It was terrifying to think I could forget anything else. But the fact that I hadn’t forgotten the people closest to me, minus this guy who says he’s my mate, was a bit of comfort. “Then what about the amnesia?” Callan growled lowly. “That, I’m not sure.” She said crossing her arms, “I can come to visit her at the hotel in a few days before the beach party. I usually work down there anyway when the resort doesn’t have guests.” “So we can take her back with us?” He asked, and there was hope in his eyes. “Yes. But you need to be very careful. No more bumps to the head or snowboarding for you young lady.” The doctor smiled, turning to me. I smiled back, “I think that’s a fair plan.” I mean if I’m leaving this place with the snow, there’s no risk of snowboarding. But it doesn’t account for accidents. Would my family, friends, and mate wrap me in bubble wrap? Brett will probably suggest it, either him or Owen. “And call me immediately if you are vomiting, experiencing dizziness, or fainting.” When I nodded she motioned to the girl sitting on Owen’s lap, “Anna, we should start the paperwork for your release. When you go back to his pack perhaps you can assist the doctor there. If not, then just file the paperwork away somewhere and you can revisit it.” Owen grabbed her hand and kissed the top of it like he was a real gentleman, and he watched her leave. I bit my lip trying not to laugh at the look on his face. Like he was a puppy and his master had just left the house. Maya was holding back laughter too. “What?” Owen asked, looking over at me. Maya and I burst out laughing. “Your face was hilarious.” I laughed. “You looked like a lost puppy.” Maya added. “Well, his mate did just leave the room.” Callan shrugged and got up to come sit closer to me. When he briefly wasn’t touching me I felt tired and fatigued. But then he took my hand and I felt energy come back into my body. Enough to talk and move that is. “I’m sorry.” Owen said somberly, “Callan I’m sorry about the things I said. It wasn’t your fault. I was just looking for someone to blame because I wasn’t there.” Callan didn’t say anything right away, instead he brought my hand to his nose, closed his eyes, and inhaled my scent, rubbing little circles on the back of my hand. “Thank you Owen. But I should take the blame. I wasn’t there to protect you, my love.” I felt a little happy and also a little sad at his words. Happy because he sounded genuine like he really cared about me. Sad because I didn’t feel anything but attracted to him at the moment. “It doesn’t sound like it was your fault.” I assured him, “It sounds like I shouldn’t have been snowboarding. I’ve never done it before so it was probably too hard for me.” He looked at me from under his eyelashes and I felt like my heart stopped for a moment. He was too gorgeous. “You're too kind to me Raelynn.” He breathed, smiling at me. Dear goddess, you brought me back just to have a heart attack brought on by a gorgeous man? Why me? “N-No problem.” I stuttered. “Well the fact we get to bring you back is great news.” Maya said standing and pulled out her phone. “Will is going to be so relieved. He was worried about you. And we’ll have to have a family party now that Owen’s found his mate. That’s a relief because I thought he was going to be in love with me forever.” I bursted out laughing while Owen flushed, “I was never in love with you. It doesn’t matter anymore anyway. I’m going to find my mate.” He stood and left. “Will and I will make sure your things get packed and we’ll pack them in a car for you.” Maya said, nodding to us and left me alone with Callan. I bit my lip, not sure what to say. “I love when you do that.” Callan said against my hand. “I’m sorry?” What was he talking about? “Your lip. You bite your lip when you're thinking and when you’re seducing me. I love it when you bite your lip. It’s cute.” I felt my cheeks flush. Did I do that? “You just did it again.” He chuckled. I gave him a small smile, “So, what pack are you from?” He turned to look at my hand for a minute, “I’m from the Red Nightwalker Pack.” I didn’t really know much about the Red Nightwalker Pack, “What’s it like? Are you a warrior? You look like you could be.” He sighed, “It’s nice, you’ll like it. I’m actually not a warrior.” He took a deep breath, “I’m the Alpha.” I blinked. He was the Alpha, so that made me the Luna? “Don’t worry.” He said scooting closer to me, “We’re not going to worry about you being Luna for a while. Right now we should just concentrate on you getting better and getting to know each other.” I took some deep breaths and nodded, “Do they know about me?” He nodded, “You met them when we got to the resort. We’ll have a pack barbeque at the beach so that we can meet the mates of the pack members who’ve found them.” I nodded slowly. He was really gorgeous. I didn’t want to look away from his strong jaw and his gray eyes that were teaming with emotions. Most of them went past too fast for me to catch them. Finally, he sighed, “Damnit.” “What?” I asked, worried it was something to do with me. “Nothing, it’s just that our mind link doesn’t work. I wish I could know what you’re thinking.” He put my hand to his forehead and sighed again, “It’s going to be hard to hold back or give you space.” I chewed on the inside of my cheek, “What do you mean by hold back and give me space?” He looked at me, “Well we’ve marked each other.” He moved his shirt slightly to show his mark while my hand reached up and touched the mark on my neck. “To be honest we’ve been hot and heavy since we met. So it’ll be hard for me to hold back that way. And since we’re marked, I can’t be apart from you for long. I’ve been sleeping here because of that.” I reached up and placed my hand on his cheek, “You’ve been watching over me?” I was touched. To think that my mate would sleep in an uncomfortable chair just to be close to me. He nodded and leaned into my touch, “Of course.” I licked my lips and stared at his. He seemed to have the same idea cause he leaned closer to me. It was slow, probably because he wanted to be careful and I was wondering what he would taste like. Our lips barely brushed when the door opened and we sprung apart. “The doctor says you can leave tonight after they watch you for a bit. That way we won’t have to miss the Ball.” Maya smiled. “Will is so happy that you're okay…. Why are your faces red?” I looked around and saw a box of tissues close by and I chucked it at her, “Mood killer.” I said sticking out my tongue. “Oh.” She gasped, “I’m sorry.” Then she turned on Callan. “Cal she’s healing so no pushing her to have s*x. Got it?!” He put his hands up in surrender, “Got it. I was just talking to her about that.” Once his hand left mine I layed back and closed my eyes. I was tired. It took so much energy to do things. “Are you ok?” Maya asked. I nodded, at least I could still move. “I’m fine. Just tired.” “Do you want me to leave you to take a nap while they get ready to discharge you?” I nodded and looked to see Callan standing up, “Hey,” I didn’t want him to go. He actually made me feel safe, “Why don’t you stay, you can lay on the bed with me.” I tried to scoot over but he just moved me back to the middle of the bed, “I’ll be right here. If you want I can move the chair so I’m right next to you.” I nodded and used the rest of my energy to turn onto my side, “So Alpha Callan, what did I call you before I reset?” He stretched, “Just Callan I guess. I call you my love but we don’t really have pet names.” I chuckled, “Maybe I’ll have to call you baby from now on. I’ve never had a boyfriend before so I wouldn’t know how relationships go.” He nodded, “I know. I also know you and Alex were f**k buddies and apparently you had a make out thing with Xavier.” He gritted his teeth when he mentioned Alex but seemed to relax a bit when he mentioned Xavier. “I don’t remember the Xavier thing.” I said, shaking my head slightly. “Apparently that was recent. Like the first day of the trip before we met. And you should know that I beat up Alex because he was rude to you. And that’s putting it nicely.” I couldn’t understand what would have made Alex be rude, maybe he was jealous that I found my mate? I reached out and he took my hand. “Can you- Can you tell me if- If we said I love you yet?” I just wanted to know so I could know if that’s how badly I liked him. He looked sad and sighed heavily, “No, we haven’t.” I couldn’t help that I felt disappointed, if anything knowing that he said it would have made me feel more secure in the relationship that we had before my memories got reset. “I was about to say it though.” He admitted. “You were?” I asked yawning. “Yeah, but I feel like it would cheapin’ it to say it now because you don’t have any feelings for me or remember our time together.” “I wouldn’t say I don’t have any feelings for you.” I whispered drifting off. When I woke up the doctor came in to go through my discharge papers and Maya came in with a new outfit cause apparently they had to cut the clothes I had on. “Now I’m prescribing this medication for any headaches that you might have. It can make you drowsy so make sure you are aware of that.” Dr. Cullen said then flipped to the next page, “I don’t want you pushing yourself. If you feel tired I want you to rest, if your feeling good then do things but don’t push yourself.” “I’ll make sure she doesn’t push herself too hard.” Callan said while he rubbed little circles on my hand. A image of me and him on a bed with no clothes on jumped into my mind. I felt my core heat up and I clamped my thighs together to disguise the scent. I don’t think it worked because he looked at me and his eyes were switching from gray to black and back again. I licked my lips and turned to look at the doctor. “You don’t need to have any dietary changes and I’d limit your activity to how much you can comfortably handle.” She brought it back to the first page and handed it to me, “I’ll come and visit you in your suite in about two days, that way I’ll be able to check up on you. And I’m serious, call me immediately if you are vomiting, experiencing dizziness, or if you faint.” I nodded and she smiled at me, “Good girl. Well get back to the hotel safe and I’ll see you in two days.” “Thanks Doc.” I said and moved the blankets to stand up. “Maya, will you help me change. I’m still kind of sore.” Maya nodded and pointed to Callan. “You,” she pointed to the door. “Out.” He gave a little growl but stood up, “I’ll be right outside Ray.” I nodded and he left the room. Maya pulled curtains around my bed to give me privacy and I took off the hospital then I turned around and took the bra and panties. “Ok Maya, spill.”
