Chapter 22 b

Aamon sat down on the mat and crossed his legs. He had unbuckled his Moonstone and rested it on the table behind him. He read the spines of the books in front of him and nodded in approval. He watched as Gisela marked the page she was reading with a pencil. She closed her book, put her hands on her lap, and looked at the mat. Her dark brown hair covered her face. Aamon smiled slightly. He might not see Karen reach fifteen. He breathed slowly feeling naked without Radiation. He was not touching a drop, the hardest thing for a Vulcan to do. It was what killed Vulcans; to touch Radiation endlessly, however, it was seductive. Aamon was only doing for Gisela to stop sensing him. She broke into tears the first time Aamon stepped closer to her and worst he was with his squad of four. Today was the first time he came alone.   “There is a little thing I need for you to do for me,” Aamon said without bothering with small talk. He knew she barely said three words at the same time. “I hope it won’t be too much to ask of you.”   Gisela nodded.   Though it was the first time Aamon came alone, Gisela was also alone for the first time. This was their fifth meeting, in a way, it felt as if it was their first time sitting together. Well, at least it felt that way for Aamon. Gisela was discovered by Tom. Gisela had told her friend that she always gets warmer when there was a Vulcan as if she was burning from the inside, but one day she felt colder; only once while she was playing in the street. But as she felt colder, it vanished instantly. She only discovered that she had sensed a Watcher when there were Watchers fixing the dam on the northeast of the city two months ago. Gisela was the reason Aamon knew there were Watchers at Amalthea.   “I know it's hard for you to open yourself to Celestial,” Aamon continued, “but I want you to sense anyone touching Celestial here in the city and tell me about them or her.”   Gisela raised her face, her eyes were wide in surprise. “Are you going to kill them, Vulcan Aamon?”   Burn me, she does talk more than three words together.   “Skygods! No.”   As long as they are not Watchers, Aamon wanted to add but he was afraid it will blow it with her.   “You don’t need to tell me their names or where they stay. I just wanted to know how many Celestialblessed do we have in the city.”   Gisela nodded, her face bowed again. Aamon stood up.   “Do you still remember what to do if you need help?” he asked as he collect his Moonstone from the table.   “I go to Copper and Dream and tell Lady Anika that: ‘light will shine to you even in the night’,” Gisela recited.   Aamon smiled to her and bid her his goodbyes. This will be grip to Hamal. Only if anything fails.
