Ruxmar is a massive floating city with the general shape of a hill with a massive magic castle at the summit. The city has three main and distinctive districts past this, at the very edge of the floating island there lies the docking area. This area is usually very busy handling trade and commerce from the other countries and has a pool of water for each of Ruxmar's trade ships that feeds into a waterfall channel that reaches the ocean allowing for worldwide trade, the boats themself being made from a specially enchanted wood that allows them to float above the water and down waterfalls. Past this is the main civilian district, the busiest and most loud district as most of the city's residents lives here. This is the epicenter of where most businesses operate. If one were to go past the massive gate that surrounds the Noble district, they would find themselves surrounded by mansions and within view of Ruxmar's famous Magic Academy, a place that has trained the world's best mages for centuries.
Emilia's family lived in the Noble district of Ruxmar, so she could be seen by many of the richer and more prominent families as bursting out of her house at an hour and speed that could be considered alien to the child, making all who knew her family stop in their tracks when they saw her running down to the middle of the district, what was even more puzzling however was how fast she had doubled back and ran in the opposite direction just seconds after she had first been seen.
Emilia: "Crap, Crap, Crap, I forgot! It's morning and they haven't gotten the medicine yet, so of course, they're not awake, yet, not to mention I need to get their birthday presents from the Academy!" She said running towards the large school.
The presents she was speaking of were things she had been working months on for her friend's birthdays instead of doing classwork. Perhaps the strangest part about this group of five friends, beyond their shared curse, was the fact they were all born in the same five consecutive days one after another, all in January, so their families just decided to share all five of their birthdays and hold a celebration for all of them on every January 23rd, even though to the kids it sometimes seemed like a countdown to their dying day.
Today was the 22nd and she wasn't about to miss the last chance this week to give them their presents today, so she ran towards the school before bursting past the door and trying her best to dodge any other students and teachers down the halls, except for a few special bullies who would curse at her as she burst into her classroom, both interrupting her teacher's lesson and the student's gossip as they all stared at her in shock.
Emilia: "Excuse me Mr. J, but I need to get some stuff out of my locker I'll be quick I promise!" she said as she pursued the opposite side of the classroom, pushing aside some of the kid's bags as she put them in her locker combination.
Mr. J: "Well you certainly have perfect timing Ms. Grayroad, we were just going over the theory and absolution of curses, would you care to impart any knowledge upon your juniors?" he said with an amused smile playing on his lips.
Emilia: "Ummm, well generally the best way to get rid of a curse can be found in three ways, finding a powerful enough Nephilim, finding and defeating the caster, or purifying one's own soul," she said trying not to pay any attention to the giggles from the class.
Finally, her locker clicked open and she grabbed her wrapped basket and closed the locker, but before she could leave the room her teacher stood in the doorway looking down at her, looking up at him Emilia saw a blue robbed man with mystical markings going down all of his arms and even down from his eyes which glowed with blue light, showing that he was using what he was renowned for, Mind magic.
Mr. J: "Then why is it, Ms. Grayroad, that you and your family of nobles haven't found a way to cure your curse so that you can attend your classes instead of commuting from home, you must be aware that your studies at home are only hindering your progress to make your family and even your ancestors proud"
This is what Emilia hated about her teacher, no this is what she hated about people in general, anyone who hasn't experienced the pain and suffering in person of another could never learn to understand their situation, nor their feelings, this a rule Emilia reminded herself of daily, something like a fundamental rule of society and even creation that stops her from truly connecting to anyone, even her parents made Emilia feel this way, and that is why when she looked up at the teacher again she wore a fake smile.
Emilia: "Yes of course sir, I understand what you mean and will try my best to get back in classes as soon as possible, so that I can learn from your brilliant teachings! Now if you may excuse me I have to go now"
Emilia would then squeeze past her teacher and leave through the door, Mr. J smiled at her words before frowning as his magic showed her true feeling to his mind as he sighed and continued class. Emilia ran out of the building faster than she had come in, but this time, not with a hopeful smile, but with a stream of tears that fell onto the school halls as she ran out the door, with her arm covering her eyes.
