After the kids discussed their plan the party started to get set up all around them, as nobles from all across town and their servants, as well as hires, started to create a beautiful party in the noble town square, balloons, ribbons, and big boxed up presents that ended up containing mostly collection of books, diagrams, lesson plans, and the occasional rare spellbook.
The group of kids gave each other their presents as well, from Koreloof was the headbands to try and encourage them to work out more with him at the local dojo, from Meli they all received friendship bracelets that she made with materials from a local jewel shop to get the beads and the rest foraged from the woods, Hawt gave them all an assortment of baked goods that they were forced to scarf down before they could get cold. Nayal gave them all a special earring that when the user pours their mana into they can use to send voice messages to one of the others, as a more practical tool for them to set up schedules and events. Finally, from Emilia, they all received a small dream catcher charm that she made in hopes of it stopping, or at the very least slowing their nightmares.
After the party ended around 6:00 pm it became apparently obvious that even after all of the nice festivities, that they were now all 17, One more year... Despite this they smiled, they have been facing this fact their whole lives, and they weren't about to let that ruin today as one of the best celebrations they would ever get to see. They then had the rest of the day to themselves and had already decided to use it, to begin with, their plan, so they walked through town using their birthday money to fill their baskets with sandwich ingredients, sweets, a picnic cloth, and special spellbook that Nayal wouldn't explain while they were purchasing them. They continued doing this until it was around sunset and Nayal said they needed to get a move on if they wanted to catch the boats at the dock, but before they could even begin running they were stopped by an old acquaintance.
Standing before them was their old friend and current class bully, Sabi, she was a couple of years older than them, and had dyed yellow hair that was spiked up, her eyes were bright green, and wore nothing but a sports bra, a black field crop jacket with the sleeves cut off, studded gloves, baggy pants with the image of a golden dragon decorated on, and a chain for a belt, that she claimed was always in style. She was much bigger than all the other kids, and was even more buff than Koreloof, which made sense since her father owned the world's largest pit fighting group she grew up gathering muscles and scars all across her body. She was surrounded by her usual entourage of warrior brothers that would always join her in her pit fights.
Sabi: "Whatcha got their pipsqueaks? Would that happen to be my dinner that you brought straight to me?" she said opening her hand as if waiting for the baskets to fall into her palm.
Koreloof: "Your dinner? the only meal I'd ever give you Sabi is a knuckle sandwich!" he said stepping forward to look up at her and shake his fist.
Meli: "Wait Korellof, let's try not to make too much trouble today okay? Nayal already said we have to leave soon or we'll miss the boat ride, and last time you two fought you both ended up making our parents have to pay for the loss of that jeweler's store, remember?" the elf girl said leaning close and whispering and grabbing his arm to set it down low, and away from Sabi's face.
Koreloof: "F-Fine, I won't cause a scene, but she isn't going to just let us go," he said with a low whisper as he turned his head to hide the slightly pink shade her gesture had made it turn too.
Nayal: "Wait guys I have a plan, just sit back and play along, and hopefully we can get through this quickly" he whispered to them before stepping forward to confront Sabi "Hi Sabi, been a long time huh? I honestly wasn't expecting to see you here today, but I'm glad we did, you see we have been wanting to join in on your father's pit fight and would like to ask you to enter us in!"
Sabi: "Y-y-you guys?" she said completely taken aback as she looked them all up and down before bursting into full-out laughter as her entourage joined in. "You guys wouldn't last more than a couple of rounds at best, even if you had Mr. Musclebrains over there be your captain!" she said as she wiped away the tears that had formed from laughing so hard at them.
Nayal: "Specifically why we want to enter, we look like complete wimps and weaklings to most people in that group, making us the best group for your father's new campaign since his business is failing"
Sabi: "T-that is such a stupid campaign he is starting, we don't need a bunch of weak little mages like yourselves in the pit fights, we only need true warriors!"
Nayal: "That might be true to you, but from a business, perspective setting up a fighting guild with no mage entry in the city of mages was a poor idea, and now his business is failing for it, it's the same groups winning every competition, and if we can win the Thanks-punching reward as child mages that are known to be cursed throughout the city, then there will certainly be hundreds of powerful and weak mages lining up to get what they believe to be an easy way to quickly make bank."
Sabi would stop talking for a bit and hold her chin pondering what to do before she turned and huddled in with her group. After a bit of time had passed she turned at them and nodded before letting them through, having now forgotten about the baskets, and the tasty food within them. The kids sprinted toward the boats and just made it as one more boat was left at the dock, they paid the man before catching their ride down, and on the way down Emilia had a question for Nayal.
Emilia: "Are we really going to enter that tournament Nayal, we might know a bit of magic between each of us, but we still are at a massive disadvantage for even kid's of our own age, not to mention grownups who have been training their whole lives to fight"
Nayal: "You sure bet we are, after all, if my plan goes right tonight then we might become the most powerful child mages of all time!" he said with a grin forming on his lips as they stepped off the boat and looked toward the Magic Forest of Ruxmar.
