Chapter One

Trust yourself. You've survive a lot, and you'll survive whatever is coming. ⚊ Ignorance is the enemy. The usual thing that has been there all the time in the back of everyone's mind but why do they keep on ignoring it until it was too late? When the world has ended before my eyes the day the horror everyone thought was just created out of imagination, there were so many things I wish I could take back. I wish I hadn't take for granted the love my ex gives to me. I wish I didn't said to my bestfriend, Benjamin that I hated him. And the one I regret the most, I wish I hadn't ignored it when I heard my mom shouting for me outside my room and thinking it was just another session of her worthless rant on how I should try to be better. It turns out she's calling for me to help. I woked up with a start that morning, hearing an unusual noises from outside of the door of my bedroom. Moans and growl rung out from almost everywhere all at once then later on as I creep out of the door, I jumped in fright when a repeated tone of gunshots followed the mixed troubling noises. I won't deny the vile taste that had gone out of my mouth the moment I took upon the bloody sight in the living room. At least two strangers were hovering around my mom's body, her guts hanging on her stomach, her nightdress torn and she was bathing in her own blood. When I looked closer, my eyes widens - horrified as they clearly bite on my last family's flesh like a cannibal. Before they can even notice me, my mom's eyes napped up to mine and with a groan, she mouthed for me to run. And I did just that. I run towards my room with my heart beating in a run. I locked it quickly before rushing off to collect things to put in my bagpack that I first picked up from it's usual place on the nightstand. I have no clue if all the ones I put in my bag is needed or not. All I had in my mind was survival. Even though it pains me to leave my mother alone in there, I knew she will not live anymore in a few hours. And if what I had read from the books is correct; she will turned as one of them once the virus fully flowed throughout all of her veins. If she is a zombie, that is. "Sorry", I whispered in the air as I take a one last glance in the room, then opens the window and took a quick run I can never imagine I will do me reatedly for the next days waiting for me in the apocalypse. _______________________________________ Days had turned to months. I have been on the run since the start of this nightmare, alone on in my own. I still haven't met another living person in a long time, only dead ones chasing for me as soon as they see me in their peripheral view. Everyday I spent my whole day hunting food inside the abandon houses I passed by and everyday my hope of meeting someone alive is dwindling. Sometimes, sleeping alone in a secure corners, did I find myself crying and asking if there's still a meaning to continue to survive. But it all changed once I met this guy, his name is Nicholas Wang. I'm out on the streets that day, looking left and right in the road. I kept my ears ready for any unwanted appearance of the zombies. The noise of my boots was barely heard as I slowly creep to the pharmacy I spotted yesterday. Once I walked inside, I hit the door in caution and waited. Among the ruins of the once clinical smelling place, there was no response on the noise I made. Shelves and cracked glasses had been walked on by muddy prints from a shoes welcome my eyes as I searched for something to get here. Anything. It matters in this desperate times. I walked towards the back, remembering that's must be where the people who worked here placed their stock of medicines. That is, if it's still hasn't hoarded by anyone who had gone here ahead of me. I stayed silent the whole time I opened up the cupboard and keeping my ears alert still as I light up for the first in a week after seeing a canned food in the last one I opened. In my uck, there's three canned tunas. I could eat again finally after starving for who knows how long. Too amazed and focus on the food in my hands, my attention span had been short almost putting my life at risk when all of a sudden I felt a hand grabbing me roughly by my feet and I realised a little too late as my face met the ground, swimming in jagged pieces of glass that one of them caught me. A zombie had caught me in the kiss of death. The smell of rotten flesh filled the air. The gnarling sounds of the zombie's mouth had made me frozen as it reaches out for the bare skin on my left foot, uncovered by your woolen sock. And memories of all the things I regretted flash on my mind, making me think that this could be the end. I'll finally see my mother again. I missed her and perhaps it would be fine for me to now go. I closed my eyes, waiting for the inevitable. Just as the teeth of the creature smashes on my skin, almost at least, a shout from someone thundered in the whole storage room - followed by a baseball wrapped in barbed wire bashing it's sharpness on my predator and the thick green blood of it had rained down on me, bathing my whole face in the process. "Open your eyes, stranger. You're already safe with us", a voice spoked out. Following the order, I opened my eyes and was taken aback by what had happened and my eyes landed from the zombie's immobile body near to my feet up to the guy who saved me. He's holding tightly on his weapon while two other guys smaller than him, peeked out from behind and one of them waved at me. "Who are you?", I asked, my voice laced with distrust. "Your saviour. If I were you, be thankful we come one time or else, you could've died", he replied to me coldly. The one behind him who didn't waved at me approach and offered his hand. "Don't mind, Nicholas. It's really hard to be trustful to strangers these days and by the way, we're all nice people here" I took the stranger's hand and stood up in my feet, nearly staggering but the one before me steadied you in a second. He's wearing a plain green shirt marred with speck of bloods everywhere. The one named Nicholas wore a black jacket with holes in some parts while the smallest one weirded me out because his outfit is the most brightest I'd seen since this nightmare. "I'm Howard and you are?", the one in green shirt offered me smile and Nicholas seems to hate it. He is now wiping his baseball bat on the dead zombie's shirt to remove the blood coating it. I could not a find an answer to that simple question. Why not if this is the first time I meet some people after months of being alone? Noticing the lost expression in my face, Howard waved the last one over to where we stood. This boy looked so young with his chubby cheeks who smiled at me innocently. Out of the three of them, he's the only one not holding a weapon. Howard have a lacross stick and Nicholas, I already know what he is using. As for me, I only have my feet to save me from any coming zombies. "This is the youngest out of us, Takashi", Howard introduced the cute one, making me nod to him and a pity developed in my chest for him. I can only wish he would survive until the end. Not long afterward as I sized each of them, the four of us standing there tenses and the three made an eye contact to each other as the rather loud moans outside increases the more seconds passes by that we stayed there, rooted in the open. "Great. Because of you all thinking you were in a party socialising, now we're dead", Nicholas granted, though he still grabbed my hand and dragged me along as he signalled for the two to follow. As I tried to keep up on his long legs leading us towards the woods, with Takashi and Howard behind running as well for their lives. My heart dropped at the view my eyes had let me see upon looking back. A horde coming from the other side of the road saw our small group, their faces green with lesions and their bodies stretched in a abnormal way, scarred my vision. And I thought as I run with the others, the memory of them snarling for nothing but to kill us and eat us up will forever be the nightmare in the rest of my uncertain life.
