AND THERE IT IS
My hand in Jo’s, I stare blindly at the scenery going by, my thoughts mainly on Emma. She looked so frail and broken. So…dull. I wonder how she really is, what she went through. What it means that they drained her. I haven’t eaten since this morning and anticipate a big meal soon. I wonder how long it’s been since she really had anything to eat. Brunch at Pawley’s?
Gods. At least she’s still alive, right? Now the healing begins. For all of us.
Nestled in a tree-covered rise, the Alpha’s brick and stone rancher doesn’t look very big from the outside, but as I walk in the door, the view is unencumbered all the way to the huge kitchen taking up the entire back wall. Long tables laden with food await us.
