Fall was definitely an unpredictable weather, especially in Maclaud, because one never knew when the weather would change from docile to fierce, within the twinkling of an eye. The wind picked up in earnest, howling a fiersome tune, and scattering things in its wake. Leaves fell unheeded from trees, leaving them bare and skeletal. Road side sellers covered their goods with transparent cellophane bags ahead of time already anticipating a change, while people going about their business knew to carry umbrellas around wherever they went, even though it was a bit of a bother lugging it around.
