One: “Mavis!” Anne’s voice crashed against me like high tide waters off the Dublin coast. My eyes opened sluggishly, and I could smell as well feel the odd rich magiks formula I was nearly fully submerged in. The thick green fluid was almost dense enough to raise me to the surface. My wounds burned, I could still feel every puncture and traumatic injury. At first, I couldn’t recall how I’d managed to get myself so properly skewered—literally speaking. “Feckin’ Devos!” I swore to no one in particular, and I heard an affirmative grunt above me. The dark iron cauldron was massive, large enough to convert into two proper hot tubs. At the lid, I saw my three mates and my father peering down at my naked and freshly scarred body. I had a litany of new scars even my healing couldn’t cure. P
