Twenty-Five: Clare flashed a perfectly dazzling fanged smile at me. Her piercing blue gaze ruptured my soul. My eyes were hot with tears. “Mum!” I exclaimed, and she nodded to me. “Hello, my little lamb. Ye’re so perfect. Seeing it all years in advance doesn’t do ye justice.” She praised me and my hand covered my heart. “I’m dreaming this, aren’t I?” I asked her, and Clare grinned at me mischievously. “That doesn’t mean this is any less real. Besides, so much of our lives are spent in dreams. I suppose ye know that better than any other, huh?” Her tone was perfectly tailored to the modern world as if she lived in it.
