Michael hadn’t heard anything from Annmarie. That wasn’t unexpected—she was busy, and Michael couldn’t expect anything with a snap of his fingers—but the wait was excruciating. The other officers in the building began to filter out early. A red warning for snow had gone up at lunchtime, advising everyone to head home as soon as possible. Michael didn’t want to leave, not when he couldn’t settle, but he had no choice. It was either go home or be stuck in the snowstorm that was starting to hit the town. Even as he left the car park, Michael found himself going in the opposite direction to his house, towards Spyros’ home.
