Lyu received the missive from London a mere hour after they parted from each other.
No one really sent it to the Attic but London managed to work around the Sky Teller, he worked enough so it would detect Carys' intention by it.
The missive was very abrupt and short, it was direct enough to make Lyu panic.
'Carysia Haeven and Rade are fighting, Geneva let out an order of execution for Carysia Haeven.'
It says not to panic and fetch Rade when they were done with the battle so, as Lyu assumed, it was either Rade won and Carysia Haeven actually die or that they reconciled their ripped past, he hope that it would be the latter rather than the former option. Lyu did not want any blood to spill, even when that blood belonged to someone that he does not know.
The Sky Teller only works in a way that Lyu could only see what he would like to see. If the person he would try to watch through the Sky Teller was someone who was very close and dear or just a person he knew very well then it would be easy to detect them through the Sky Teller.
"You will be drained by using the Sky Teller this often," Fannie said, but not a trace of concern was in his tone.
It was as though he was just waiting for Lyu to be at the very edge of his limit, like was some kind of entertainment for him which, however good Lyu's humor, was a sentiment that he does not appreciate. It was already hard for Lyu to control his own abilities since the Spatial Void was coming, sometimes his tails would even be appearing which makes it troublesome to go outside of the cafe.
"Stop it," Megumi snapped in a serious tone and a frown on her extremely delicate face, but it was unclear to whom it was directed to.
"I'm looking for Rade," Lyu finally divulged, "London told me that Rade was fighting with Carysia Haeven in the moment through the Sky Teller, but London doesn't know where so I'm searching."
Megumi was steeping tea, the smoke from it was as fragrant as always but there was unease among the three of them that could not be denied. Fannie was lounging on the tatami mat, holding a cup with both hands while he savored the aroma of the drink. Even when one would look at him and only see his lazy posture, there was an odd keenness permeating through his red eyes.
In the setting sun of the day, Lyu's golden eyes were as sharp as ever. It casted a deep golden hue on the room making everything on the room appear with a tinge of yellow and orange. Because of the golden haze around, Lyu's features became angular and harsher, a completely sharp contrast with his usual gentle self. It was a very unlike image.
"Shall we go and ensure that Rade would survive?" Megumi suddenly asked Lyu, worry was written deeply all over her face.
Lyu was not able to answer quickly so Fannie and Megumi has to wait for a while as he go through the events with his clairvoyance, the shade of yellow was that was being casted through the Sky Teller was getting stronger until it was almost blinding. After a full two hours, the harsh golden glow in the room finally ceased easing the tensed atmosphere into a more delicate silence.
Fannie has gone down to read and stretched his legs, stating that he was bored just looking at Lyu using the Sky Teller and excusing himself to Megumi who only smiled and nodded. At the half time, Fannie went up again but this time he was already dressed on his usual clothing.
"Determined, is he?" he said, almost in a sneer as he looked at the softness of the sleeping form of Lyu.
"Lyu is physically weaker than us," Megumi said, caressing the head of her younger brother with a gentle hand. "His heart is unsettled by not helping others in battle. In this way, he thinks that he could help them immensely."
"Or find the validation that he sought," Fannie contradicted. Megumi shook her head towards him. "What?" he demanded when he caught that shake. "Everyone wants to be validated even when they are useless. Besides, Lyu is only a demon. It's already a shame that we are living as humans, why should he seek for their approval?"
"Not approval," Megumi answered gently. It was uncertain whether Megumi was scolding Fannie or "he is their friend, and they are his. It is not wrong that he's only just looking out for them. Humans have a kinship and they honor it. Similar to how we look out for each other."
"Shut up, Megumi," Fannie snapped right back at her. "Humans are humans, they would never change. Since when will you pose as a human, Azure Dragon?"
He lied down on the tatami mat and turned his back in front of Megumi. Instead of being hurt, Megumi slid closer to Fannie and also caressed his straight blond hair. Her peach blossom eyes were as beautiful as the first dawn and gentle as the sun's kiss in the morning.
"Lyu can never live the same way as other demons do," Megumi answered in a whisper, careful not to wake Lyu up. "Even when I told them that I am only half a demon and an immortal, it's still not enough to avoid discrimination."
"Aren't you ashamed of yourself?" Fannie hissed. "Living as though you're a human, decreasing yourself in this kind of form?"
"You strike a deal with Lady Aldeia, is that not the same thing? It is true that we may not live as real demons but if I let go of this lifestyle, do you think that I will also not be hunted by these demon hunters?"
"You're not an immortal, Azure Dragon, you are a demon," Fannie reminded her. "You know that, I hope that you won't forget that you are only pretending."
At the same time, Lyu suddenly woke up, his eyes were wide and immediately looked around. He was breathing hard and seemed disoriented. He looked around the room and, with a panic stricken expression, he sat up, chest heaving the unnecessary air on his lungs. The sun has already set down on the horizon.
"I fell asleep!" Lyu's cheeks automatically flushed with anger at himself and he stomped his little toes on the tatami mat though his peach blossom eyes have some haze of drowsiness still.
Megumi chuckled, even Fannie could not help but let out a small snort with amusement at Lyu's cute reaction, his cheeks were even bouncing and there was a look on his face as though he was a deer caught in headlights. Megumi slid beside Lyu, away from Fannie, and patted Lyu's curly hair and gave him a cup of steaming tea to calm his nerves.
"Using the Sky Teller would certainly reduce your energy despite the coming of the Spatial Void," Megumi cooed at him. "That is why you fell asleep so easily but I think this is also a great way for you to exercise your power. You know how powerful the Sky Teller could be, Lyu. Now—" Megumi straightened her back and posture as she delved into a more serious matter "—do you know now where Rade is? Where could we find her?"
Lyu nodded, his long curls swaying in the motion of his head then sipped on the cup that Megumi gave him. He blinked his eyes, both were now turned to a normal brown shade which was its common color when he was not using the Sky Teller, not even a hint of the golden flash they had earlier. He now looked extremely cute and normal that Megumi had an urge to pinch his plump cheeks. Since Lyu was still rather disoriented, she opted not to do it.
"Then do you want me to drive you there?" she asked again.
Again, Lyu nodded eagerly. He was already standing up and pulling at one of Megumi's sleeves' hem which left Megumi no choice but to also stand up. Her head immediately turned to Fannie who was still lying on the tatami mat, seemingly bored and only lazing around the room.
"We will go," she started, giving emphasis on each word. Megumi has only let Fannie be alone inside of the Attic a couple of times yet she was still afraid that if both Lyu and her left Fannie all alone inside the house and cafe, they might not have nowhere to get back to. It was the main reason why they were all inside the Aldeia clan's manor. "But we will only be gone shortly. Please take care of the house and try not to burn it down."
"Why don't you just bring me along if there will be an underlying threat?" he asked listlessly, his elbow was propped up to support his fair head. His lids over his red eyes and that only made him quite the more attractive.
Megumi shook her head.
"Come on, Nee-san!" Lyu persuaded, pulling gently at the hem of her sleeves yet again. "Let's go!"
"It is fine if you would like to stay here," she said then glided towards the door. "But don't destroy the shop and the house, Fannie. Good-bye for now."
There was a hint of warning on her tone that made Fannie snorted and rolled his eyes at the brother and sister. Lyu looked at his older sister. As they were descending on the stairs, his words went back to Fannie.
"Is it because of Laurinette Haeven?" he asked carefully. The implication was quite evident that Megumi didn't answer that fast. "The reason why you didn't want Fannie to come with us to fetch Rade and Carysia Haeven was because of the dead, right? The Lady Laurinette Haeven was his vessel not even a year ago. And now, the young lady's body had now been vanquished, is it because of it?"
"It would be hard for them both to face the person that killed their sister," Megumi agreed with a slight nod. "Judging by your actions, were they not able to reconcile?" Lyu nodded with concern and sighed, bowing his head to look at his hands. "I don't want bring any misfortune upon those two. If Young Master Carysia Haeven and Rade have not mend their broken bonds, it is for them to decide how this will end. They are quite fragile still, Lyu, there is no need to force them to reconcile when they both think it is not for the best of them both."
Lyu became listless, looking at the scenery as his older sister drove to the place he told her.
As Lyu has seen on the Sky Teller, they were just right on time. Megumi's car, which has never really been much of a use since all of the main establishments in the city were all walking distance, parked in front of the chapel.
"You go on and get them her," Megumi told Lyu. "I will just wait here and watch."
Megumi knew that things were far from done, much less now that Carysia Haeven refused to mend his bond with Rade. The Spatial Void was still expanding on the region and, with it powering the demons around, it also unleashed the Parallel Balance which could be disastrous while Fannie was still on his weakest form, unable to stop things from progressing to the worst. Since Fannie was a demon himself, the presence of a more powerful demon than him would mean that he was also being affected from its presence than what he was letting on. It was insulting, yes, but it was the truth for Fannie.
Maybe it could make him regain his former strength but it would naive to think that Fannie would be able to do anything and seal back the Spatial Void demon manifestation to the Deep Manifestation Dimension and prevent the Parallel Balance from following the Spatial Void.
In any way, there were more information that she does not know currently and some may help her while others may not.
"But at least, Carysia Haeven have been subdued, and isn't that a start?" she whispered under her breath while she was looking at Lyu running towards the figure of two.
Meanwhile, Lyu was still honestly so sleepy to the point that he wanted to just get back to the Attic and slept some more but he already felt so guilty by not assisting Rade on her fight against Carysia Haeven. Kalleid was still recuperating from the new weakness that his supposedly immortal body found. Lyu knew that he was also a half demon immortal but Kalleid, unlike him and his sister, does not have any special abilities other than self-heal which all demons all possessed.
Along with Kalleid being confined to a bed was New York who was worried sick. Then there goes London who was just following the order of the Lady Geneva Aldeia.
Lyu smiled towards Rade who seemed to have been in a daze. At the middle of the pathwalk when they just met in the middle of the path, Rade suddenly fainted, her head lolling back on Lyu's shoulder. Lyu detected that it might have been due to fatigue, when he touched her arms, he immediately knew that Rade hasn't eaten or even slept for days to count.
That made the little immortal even guiltier.
Lyu looked around with a peculiar gaze on his eyes, trying to seek where Carysia Haeven could have gone but he saw nothing. Finally, he directed all of his attention on the girl sleeping on his shoulder. Lyu was already tall enough that he could now support Rade's head without tipping on his toes (this was a big achievement for him). Rade looked innocent while sleeping as though there was no worries that were burdening her.
That made Lyu smiled even more.
He was uncertain at first with the vision that the Sky Teller was giving him. The visions were different from one another, similiar to how a person was very unpredictable. He could only be certain when a particular decision was set into stone, only then would the present aligned with future and Lyu would be certain of the outcome.
At some point, Carys Haeven was indeed determined to kill Rade. He was determined to show her that he has grown stronger than her. Despite that, Lyu trusted that Rade would be able to show the young master into a brighter path where they could both walk on despite her ledger being dripping wet and despite the anger that Carys was still feeling.
Lyu could still feel the emotion of resentment within the heart of the other boy. There was still anger and that kind of determination, but the anger have been dulled until it could not be pierce anything or make skin bleed. The pain was still there, it might not even fade, but it seemed to Lyu that Carys Haeven has finally accepted the reality.
And that was such a relief for Lyu.
But that won't mean that everything will be alright now. Lyu was unsure if it was alright to leave things as they were but since it was not him who was going through the situation, he really does not have any credibility to talk so he did what he was told to do and fetched Rade on a small chapel where she emerged, not victorious or even defeated but scathed.
When Rade woke up, she was already lying on her own apartment. The low rise apartment that she rented was undoubtedly very cheap with its features and commodities but she didn't mind really. Rade has always been living as a frugal person and even she was only by herself, she doesn't see any reason to spend extravagantly when she could settle on a simpler lifestyle.
But shame on how she lived resurface when she realized where she was and when it hit her just who were the two people sitting beside her.
They were Megumi and Lyu.
She almost exclaimed with surprise. Just almost though, she still has some reputation and dignity to upbold. Rade slowly sat up. It was a very fortunate thing that though she had been living frugally by herself, she was a very neat person when it comes to her things or maybe it was only because Rade was never really at home so her so-called neatness was crossed out when one would regard the amount of dust that have accumulated.
Rade guessed that it was part of being frugal.
"She's awake!" Lyu said with an energy that Rade could never surpass.
She tried to smile at Lyu but felt that her lips were cracking. Emerging from the very worn and cheap-looking door of her apartment's only door was Miss Megumi who was holding a tray of refreshments. She sat down beside Rade and let her drank the tea that she prepared.
"Lyu said that you haven't had anything for days," Megumi said with worry, it etched itself on her forehead that Rade wanted to not worry her any longer. "Drink slowly or your stomach will turn."
Like what Megumi advised, Rade drank the tea very very carefully. The mild taste of it satisfied Rade's barely surviving taste buds, sweet but not entirely so and there was also a hint of bitterness which made the flavor richer. It also made her extremely hungry.
"Food is ready outside, Rade," Lyu told her with a smile. "I helped with the cooking, Rade." Lyu even guided her as she struggled ro get up on her own.
She felt that every part of her body was aching and screaming at her to rest more. Rade was afraid though that if she sleep more, her starvation would be her ending. In the span of the weeks that she spent on the investigation, Rade's ribcage poked more prominently than ever. She was too skinny, she thought as she walked out of the bedroom.
Finding clues and understanding the HODE's upper echelon's political matters and even getting back to the people who only used her as a killing machine when she was helpless and without the help of the Aldeia clan really took a toll on her well- being.
I need to get healthier, she said to herself while she looked at the foods on the table still smoking hot.
There were certain things that Rade wanted to know, certain reasons and stories that she wanted to be aware of, but she let those things slip away from her mind for a split second as Megumi and Lyu joined her for the meal.
Maybe Carys and her would never be the same way but Rade could be patient, waiting for Carys.
