The big day

Lexi took a steadying breath trying to slow her racing thoughts. Normally Lexi would shift into her wolf and just run, feeling her paws dig into the forest floor as she streaked amongst the trees. She'd sometimes run till her lungs ached and her legs gave out. Today that was not an option since her father insisted on the house being spotless before the unmated males started to filter through seeing if she was their mate. Lexi wanted nothing more then to flee now but with Zach posted upfront and Eli out back she didn't dare try to run now knowing well what they'd do if she was caught. Winding her hair into a bun Lexi looked in the mirror wondering if she really did look like her mother and what she would have said to her today. Would she want me to be mated and out like her father or wish for her to make her own way in the world? She blinked back the tears that threatened to spill over. Lexi knew if any of her brothers caught her weeping they'd give her a reason to cry. The morning passed in a blur, all too soon her father called her to the frontroom to be presented, she hated being put on display like that, as if she was nothing more then a piece of meat. Lexi stuffed her hands in her pockets to hide her trembling. She waited on baited breath as the males started filtering through one at a time hoping she would be theirs. As the day progressed Lexi began to relax, nearly all of the unmated males had come and left. Even Rex the alpha had already been by. She had begain thinking of her first stop after she left. Maybe she'd start off in a nearby city or perhaps go somewhere more exotic. As long as she was far away from other wearwolves and could remain unmated Lexi didn't really care where her journey began. Lexi excused herself to begin packing what little she had when crashing erupted from her room. She dashed in to find the entire space trashed. Charles stood amongst the wreckage panting and clutching an envelop. Lexi paled as soon as she took in what was once her room. She felt like her heart had dropped as soon as she saw her life savings in his hand. "Explain!" He snarled glaring at her with black eyes. Lexi begain to shake as her instincts screaming at her to run. She couldn't do it though without that money she's never make it out of pack lands. "It's my share of my earning from the bakery." Lexi mumbled not daring to look up she continued "Please give it back, please Charles." He slowly paced up to her steping close enogh to her that Lexi could feel his heat smelling nothing but his scent laced with anger and hate. Lexi glanced up at him hopful. As her eyes reached his he smirked at her and continued walking the jerk even took the stairs 2 at a time. She dropped to her knees feeling numb. All that work, all that extra effort. skipping meals to spend extra time at the bakery knowing her father wouldn't miss the extra pay so long as her regular pay check was handed over. All of it had been in vain she'd be watched even closer now and never get the chance to save again. "GIRL!" roared her father. Lexi stood on numb feet allowing only one tear before turning to trudged the staits to face Edward. Lexi entered the small frontroom prepared for her fathers yelling but instead was met with a fist to the face. Her vision swam for a moment and the coppery taste of blood flooded her senses as the floor seemed to come up to meet her. The hardwood floor felt cold against her face as someone either her father or one of her brothers landed another impact on her side sending pain from her ribs to her shoulder. Lexi kept her eyes closed hoping for it to end. What "it" was exactly she couldn't be sure. Perhaps the loss of her out had taken with it her will to live or was it just the pain of the moment she wanted to end? Before slipping into the bliss of unconsciousness Lexi could vaguely smell the sweet scent of teak wood and rain.
