Chapter Two- A Date With Destiny

2087 Words
She looked at the name on his business card at least a million times while she struggled comprehending that this was actually THE Parker Hammond. Commercials and ads had been placed on everything in the city when it came to him, but she always envisioned an older man, maybe one with white hair, who had spent decades building a company-not someone like him. While holding his card, she fell into a vision of analyzing him once more. His tall physique and dark features were enough to make her smirk as the card just brushed her lips. Her mind wandered to the more sensual parts of him as she realized she judged him unfairly. When she had first encountered him, she hated his arrogance and fact he threw around money as if he made it by the second, but now, she saw he had a soft side to him. Maybe he was a noble robin hood type who gave his fortune to those in need. But even in her perfect fantasy, she couldn’t help but wonder why her. There were far more beautiful women whose parents or loved ones lay in the hospital. What was it about her that he felt she needed help. It was enough to make her finally dial the number on his card, bringing a female voice on the other end that surprised her. “Hammond Enterprises, how may I assist you?” With it only being a phone call, Holly was forced to imagine what the person she talked to looked like. She imagined her big chested with a thin waist and model-type features. It was enough to make her feel less than attractive, although she had no idea that the woman she was actually talking to was a subtle beauty just like her. “Um...yes...is uh...Parker Hammond available?” The woman seemed to hesitate, almost in disbelief that someone asked for Parker so easily. “Do you have an appointment?” “No-” “Then I am sorry to say that Parker Hammond is a very busy man and does not take conversations unless made into appointments-” “Am I able to make an appointment?” “No.” Holly grew confused before she thought of what she could say that wouldn’t come off as bitchy. This was difficult as she was already self conscious about how beautiful the girl must be and how she was getting in over her head. “I believe that Parker has wanted me to call him-” The woman then interrupted her, being trained to deal with women who used every ploy in the book to get time with him. “Miss, I have dealt with desperates like you for some time. If Mister Hammond wanted to see you, I am sure he would have made an appointment with you.” “I’m Holly Blaire, he-” The line then went dead as she looked at her phone in disbelief. She was beyond confused at the interaction as as she went to call again, found her number to be unable to reach that of his place of business. She knew she had been blocked. “I knew it was too good to be true…” She commented before throwing herself between her sheets and throwing open her laptop and put up youtube before falling asleep to an audiobook. When she awoke the next morning, she let out a sigh as she knew she would be forced to enter her literal hell; work. Most Saturdays were sought after in her life, but this one was not one of them. Usually, she would spend her days in bed or at her father’s side, not having to think of much other than that. However, due to a flub in scheduling, she was made to work on what would be her usual day off. She immediately awoke to take a shower and basked in the warm water that woke her up from her drowsy nature. She then continued through her room and into the closet where she had a multitude of her uniforms hanging up. Pulling them down and setting it on the bed, she continued to dry herself with the towel before tossing it in the laundry basket before placing on her undergarments and finally, her uniform. She never used to mind putting it on as she knew it meant financial security for her and her father, but its green and black colors were now starting to nauseate her as she knew the world she would be walking into. Throwing her solid black hat over her ponytail and applying a thin layer of mascara and gloss on her face, she gave herself deodorant, perfume, and finally brushing her teeth before heading out the door, to her job. As she had done everyday, she left an hour before necessary to walk and save every sent she could so she could give it to her father. It had only been about eight blocks to her job, which wasn’t too bad as she made the journey and entered before finding her boss already look to her with his overly sexualized mind that he never cared to hide. “Well good morning Miss Blaire…” He spoke as she gave a smile before moving into the back room to punch her time card in and turned to find her boss standing in the doorway, stopping her from leaving. She groaned at this, knowing what was about to unfold and prayed it would either be done quick or not at all as she then moved to her locker, placing items like her purse and wallet into them before finally turning to face him. “Good morning.” She spoke kindly as he leaned on the lockers beside her. “You know, if you ever wanted to work a little overtime…” He brought the back of his fingers to her arm, making the wrong kind of chills form on her body. She winced away as she looked to him with disinterest. “With my dad-” “Is that old geezer STILL kicking?” She kept all of her anger inside as she had half of a mind to slap him right across the face as she dealt with this every day. But with her being as desperate as she was to keep this job, she sucked it up and just nodded. “I really need to get stocking today-” She commented, trying to use any excuse she could to get away from him as he smelled of pickles and sweat and leaked with the kind of persona that wouldn’t be interesting to even the most aroused of women. “By all means…” He motioned as if acting as a gentleman for the fracture of a second as his gaze followed her out of the room. As she made her way quickly back in the stock room to retrieve her price gun, she emerged before her boss had another chance to keep her blocked. She then made her way to the large stack of boxes waiting to be priced as she took out each item one by one-as she had done each and every day. While doing so, she imagined being anywhere else. Her usual go-to fantasy had been that of a beach with a cocktail of a pastel color at her side as she had nothing but the soft crashing of the waves to echo around her. But now, her fantasy had changed to one of Parker. He seemed to be the star in her fantasy as he had taken her from this place, made her not worry about her father, and given her the chance at a normal life away from daily visits to hospitals and a pervert boss. It was enough to make her eight hours seemingly begin to fly as she was on her lunch break before she knew it. She took her seat outside, as she had always done, as she pulled out her peanut butter and jelly sandwich and bottle of water while calling the hospital to check on her father by using the phone booth. When she returned inside, she returned to that blasted price gun and continued on the shelves, unaware of who just walked into the store. His persona captured the gaze of every man and woman who surrounded him. It was almost as if he demanded it without even really saying a word. His alluring gaze and tall, dark, and handsome features being knocked down pat, every single person had their eyes on him-everyone except Holly as she was thinking of her perfect little beach. It wasn’t until a co-worker of hers had nudged her that she noticed the man of financial strength to be standing behind her. “Miss Blaire?” “Parker-Mister Hammond…” “Parker is fine...do you have a moment?” He spoke as if he was constantly reciting something from a script as each word was carefully picked to seem alluring and s****l-especially when it came to her. She nodded and followed him away from the eyes and ears of others as he brought her to the back of the store. Unaware to her at the time, she was being scowled at by her boss who fell immediately in competition with Parker, although there was no true comparison. “Please forgive me for my assistant, there are many...mentally unstable women who call the office.” “How did you know where to find me?” She asked, frightened at the fact that less than twenty four hours ago, they were strangers, and now he was standing at her place of work. “Those who work at the hospital think quite highly of you-” “Why did you give that money?” She hesitated, feeling slightly rude to ask, but desperate to know why. “I was hoping we could speak about that over dinner.” She couldn’t hide her surprise as usually anybody who invited her to dinner was doing so from pity or feeling as though she was an easy lay. But with him, she could tell it was different. “Tonight?” He nodded. As she remained silent, in shock, as he took this as her being apprehensive, he then spoke his charming set of words to her. “Or any other night, I will make time for you.” His eyes almost seemed to pierce a hole through her as he waited anxiously for her response, although his anxiety was sealed beneath his exceptional poker face. “Why?” He was surprised at her response as he smirked. “Because I believe we should get to know each other over some food…” He playfully teased her as she blushed, feeling rather stupid for asking, before continuing on her thought. “Why me, I mean….” He smiled to her with a smirk that made her cheeks grow hot. “Because you’re different. You interest me.” He enjoyed making her uneasy as her lips gently parted and his eyes fell to her mouth. “Will you join me tonight?” She nodded, her head moving before she had a chance to stop it. “Alright, I will send a car for you after your shift.” “Um...can I have you pick me up a bit later?” His brows lifted. “I just want to get out of this uniform.” “I would prefer you to remain in it, if it is alright.” “Really?” She gave a scrunched up expression as she was surprised to find him nod. “I will pick you up around five.” He confirmed as she nodded, those around her now looking to her with scowls and confusion as to why he had chosen her above them. It was a fair thought as she had thought it herself; more importantly, why he chose her above people like Ruby. Ruby was a beautiful red headed bombshell who all the guys drooled over when they came into the store. It was girls like that, that would make sense for guys like Parker, but for some reason he wanted her. She couldn’t bring herself to understand why, to understand any of this at all. Why her? The mundane, uneventful, pitiful, and even emotionally damaged Holly Blaire.
