LIZA’S POV
“I don't understand what you mean. Shouldn't I have gone? I mean, I'm confused.” I said to Scarlett trying to understand what exactly is going on.
“Liza_” Scarlett paused.
“Help me understand, is there something I do not know? I mean, something was off at his place and then alpha Arthur is tense too and now; there's you, worried. What do I need to know?” I asked Scarlett.
“Er, the only thing you need to know is that you have to stay away from his home.” Scarlett said to me trying to avoid giving me an explanation.
“Scarlett?”
“I'm sorry but I cannot say more.
“You know he's my only friend, are you asking me to stay away from him?” I asked her feeling bad already.
“No, I am advising that you stay away from his house. Except you want alpha Arthur to stop the both of you from being friends.” Scarlett said, rolling her eyes.
With my eyes fixed on Scarlett, we both turned to the door at the sound of a knock on it.
Scarlett got up to check who it was while I stood watching. After muffle talks, she closed the door and turned to me.
"Alpha Arthur asked to see you." She said to me and I could feel my heart skip at the sound of it.
"Oh! Sweet gracious." I expressed feeling scared of what is to come.
"Calm down, he is not that harsh. He'll hear your side of the story first before anything." Scarlett said to me to calm me down but it wasn't working at all.
"You sound so sure." I said to her,
"I am sure. I was a slave before, remember?" She said, reminding me.
"And just in case you haven't noticed, I got my freedom only because you requested. So that should be enough for you to calm down." Scarlett explained further.
With that, I took a deep breath and made my way out.
As I walked out of my room, I was torn in-between going to the dinning hall or the garden. I knew he would be in either of those places. Scarlett has forgotten to ask the person that came where I'd meet him.
It doesn't matter anyway, I said to myself and shrugged my shoulders
"Hey " I was startled immediately I heard the familiar voice.
"Follow me." Arthur instructed which I did.
We walked for a while until we got to the garden. "Do you know why I brought you here?" He asked me and I shook my head indicating no.
"Sit." He said pointing at the chair in front.
"Have you ever asked yourself while I accommodated you and treated you like you belong with us?" Arthur asked me again.
At this point, I thought to myself which one he wanted me to answer first as this is the second question.
"Don't stress, I do not need you to answer the questions as they are just highlights of this conversation." He said to me and I let out some air I had held up in my nostrils from feeling so nervous.
"I want you to listen to me attentively as I do not like to talk about the same thing twice."
I nodded again in affirmation that I was following what he was saying to me. I hoped nodding like this wasn't going to infuriate him the most.
"I have no idea of who you are or what your background is like. My only concern is to look after you as that is the promise I made to Ryder. I will not let anyone prevent me from doing that, not even you. Do you understand me?" He asked me.
"Yes sir, I do. I'm sorry." I apologized not knowing exactly why I was apologizing.
"Hush, why are you sorry?" He asked me.
Ouch, he must have had the same thoughts I had. Why exactly was I sorry? Or am I even sorry? I asked myself.
"I thought so." He said when I gave no response.
"Very well then. I had no idea it was the rogue's house you were going to, I wouldn't have let you." He said and clicked his tongue afterwards like someone who had terrible regrets about his decision.
I felt tempted to ask him why but I wouldn't let my curiosity push me into doing something I'll eventually regret.
"I can't tell you to unfriend him, but I meant it when I told you not to go there. Some waters are not to be tested." He said as he looked at me waiting for my response.
“I won't go there, I promise.”
“Whatever is between you and Ryder is the both of you business but my best advice is that you be extra careful. If your real identity is leaked out, I will deny having any knowledge of who you really are. You will simply be a lost wolf I decided to help.” Arthur said and that sounded really mean but I cannot blame him. No one of high class wants to have anything to with a rogue but he looked past that and protected my secret.
“I understand everything you said and I promise to not be careless.” Two promises in one evening. Promises I had no idea how I was going to keep.
“Ryder is coming next week, but he hasn't even had a particular day yet as he said he had things to sort out before coming here. He said he would love to spend some time with you so he will ensure he cleared out the necessary things he has to clear out. The best you can do is stay in one piece until he comes.” Alpha Arthur said but I think I was beginning to get tired of hearing the same thing in a thousand different ways. Though the part of Ryder is new which got me very much much elated though I tried to hide it.
“Lastly_” Alpha Arthur caused.
At this point, I felt like rolling my eyes but I couldn't. That would be too disrespectful.
