Escape
LIZA’S POV
“Hey, I’m here to help you. I don’t want to hurt you. If I wanted to, I would have done that a long time ago.” The shoulder said to me, holding my arm like a stick. I stared at him straight in the eyes ready to take my last breath. At this point, I could not tell what happened next as it felt like my life was an absolute mess. I remained still, waiting for him to have his way with me but instead he had a soft smile on his cheeks. His facial expression looks like he is enjoying my fear and I could see he is a killer. Most killers feed on their victims' fear before murdering them.
Oh yeah, you can call me an over-thinker. With a person who has lived my kind of, I should be permitted to think about the absolute worst right now.
“Heyy” he said, snapping his finger over my face trying to bring me back to reality. I had zoned out thinking about a lot without realizing it.
“I am not here to hurt you. I am sad this time without a number. But then, we do not have all this time you keep making us waste. We need to head North.” He said to me like a father to his child.
“North?” I asked with my eyes wide
“Yes Missy. North you have been going the wrong way. So if you would let us, we need to head North.” He said with an atom of frustration laced on his voice.
“we?” I asked him again, somewhat confused with his manner of speech.
“Damn it! “ he snapped. “Is my English not clear enough? Or do I need to hold you over my shoulders for us to move.” He asked me with a stressed look.
“Okay, you are going the wrong way. We need to go north before the road becomes unsafe. Ryder asked me to ensure you get to Alpha Arthur’s kingdom on time and safely. Emphasis on the safe, so if you would let me direct you the right path then we can achieve that common goal.” He said to me in the lamest way anyone could ever think of.
“Fine, you win.” I responded. Not like I had any choice. My last chance of survival is to follow him and try to keep my ears up incase of any abnormalities.
“finally.” He stressed as we began walking. I made sure to walk behind him since he is the one that knows the way to where we are headed.
With each step, I grew tired and I thought to myself. ‘Now would have been the best time for him to care for me over his shoulders like he threatened.’
“Tired already.” He asked me how fast my heart was beating and how loud my breath was.
“Obviously.” I responded rolling my eyes. I wonder where all this audacity was coming from.
Might be because I already accepted death and now I feel like anything could happen so what is the worst that could?
“Aren’t we there yet?” I asked him with my energy on one percent.
“Almost there princess.” He responded with a tease which really annoyed me but there was nothing I could do other than to keep walking till I passed out from exhaustion.
“Okay, I will leave you soon. You have to go on the rest of the journey yourself. They don’t do well with strangers” the guard said, which made me uncomfortable.
“What do you mean by leaving me soon? You didn’t leave me before now until it’s dark?” I asked him with my heart in my throat.
“I cannot get there with you okay? After a few steps, I will describe the routes you should go through. Follow my instructions and you will be safe. They are expecting only you, my presence will only cause trouble. Please do not make Alpha R6der regret sending you here. Just do the right thing and you will be safe.” He explained with concern laced on his voice.
“okay.” Was all I could say as I kept following him.
After a few steps, just like he said; he stopped and I stopped too. He described the routes I should take and he also assured me that I will be fine.
After everything, he turned to leave while I remained on the spot for a few minutes. After thinking about my life, I began to walk slowly in the direction he had strictly told me to follow.
“At this pace, you wouldn’t get anywhere.” I said to myself and increased my pace.
While I kept walking, my heart sounded so much that I could hear it loud and clear. The night already got so dark but the chirping of the birds in the tree was so much company.
As I kept walking, I hummed my favorite song to help with the fear I felt deep down inside of me.
While I walked further, I heard footsteps in the distance which caused me to come to an instant halt and I could feel so much panic surging from inside me.
I listened closely to know if I’ll hear more footsteps but I couldn’t hear anything else so I kept walking though I kept my ears up just in case of anything.
After taking a few steps, I felt someone grab me and throw me into what felt like a large sack.
It was so easy for him to do that it felt like a person specialized in abductions. At that moment, I didn’t know what to think other than struggling so hard to see if he would lose his grip on the sack and I’ll fall out.
The more I struggled, the more his grip tightened. In less than a minute of struggle, I gave up and stopped struggling as I accepted my fate.
As my heart pounded, I felt a sting of betrayal from the guard who had led me here. The only thing I could think of was to imagine what my death would be like or how I would be given out to a slave master.
In-between all that thought, I was dropped so hard that I hurt my elbow.
